nam - try the slipway in porthcawl at full tide - you are sheltered from the wordt of the swell, and youn can go round the pole without being too far away from dry land if youn get tired

Hope might know about swimming in Barry...

There are also loads of quiet little reservoirs on the way to Brecon...

Swimming in a pool is bad enough - open water swimming is way out of my depth - literally!

Alex, I have an electronic copy of Sundays results if you want a set email at rjh2244NOSPAM@yahoo.com Interesting reading, you were not last out of the swim, there was one person behind you.

Just take out the NOSPAM

Nam - swimming in Barry is OK, it's a bit estuary muddy, but clean enough. In order of distance from Cardiff the beaches are The Bendricks - sandy, quiet, calm water but dirty. Jackson's Bay - sandy, bit busier, calm water, still a bit dirty. Whitmore Bay (aka Barry Island beach) - sandy, busy, cleaner, nasty current when tide's making.Watch Tower Bay - quieter but still busy in season. Current not too bad, but watch tides as can be very shallow and muddy on high tides. Cold Knap - great water but pebbles unless very low tide. Porthceri - same as Cold Knap. My pick for swimming would be Jackson's Bay (and over the Island for chips after).

Pebble, I got mailed the results this morning by the race organizer, but thanks anyway. The last person in the swim was soooo last I could not see them ! I was not unhappy with it all. One day I will decide to go for it on at least the bike and the run.

Yes, 5k time trial with Port T Harriers tonight and got 18:57. Not too bad. Bought 4 puff pastry apple pies in Tesco on way home by way of reward. It was good Chris, nice to have people to chase.

Why does the depth effect your ability to swim Boffin ?

Thats the good thing with all this racing/training we can indulge ourselves with out any pangs of guilt.

Pies make ideal pre and post race food I have to say.

Chris, thanks for the link. Looks interesting but I will prob not be up for it after my Tri on Sun. Have decided to get my pole vaulting back on the road so maybe later in the year I can give that a rip. My PB is 2.95m, god knows what I would be like at it now !
