The Kirste 5 Memorial Race

Benfleet Running Club invites you to remember Kirste Bowman (nee Snellgrove) .

Kirste was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, and underwent six bouts of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but was diagnosed with cancer again in her other breast in 2010.

She passed away on February 9 2012, at the age of just 42, after raising more than £50,000 for breast cancer charities by running 23 marathons while fighting the disease.

She joined Benfleet Running Club in 2001 and throughout her treatment she never stopped going to the club, and would train most days.

She won the RW Heroes in Running Survivor Award in 2010.Her smiling face will be forever missed. 

Join us if you can for this Legacy Race to remember her, and to raise vital funds for two of her charities, Macmillan Nurses and Bosom Pals Southend Cancer Support.

Grove Wood Primary School, Grove Road, Rayleigh, SS6 8UA

A charming 5 mile route heading to Hockley Woods, returning through Cherry Orchard Jubilee Park, New England Wood, & Grove Wood.

Due to the nature of the course, race entries will be limited and closing date is 10th July 2012.

Entries on the day if race not full.

Medal To All Finishers

All profits from this race will be donated equally between Macmillan Cancer Support, and Bosom Pals. I am sure Kirste would have welcomed pink attire, and we will give prizes to the first male and female runners home in the best pink costumes

Online entries now available for the 5 Mile, and the 3k Junior / Fun Run.

All finishers will receive a bespoke medal.

Technical T-shirts will be on sale, to raise extra funds for Bosom Pals and Macmillan Nurses.

Ran the course last night as part of our club run, phew it was a hot evening, hope it is a cool day or at least has a bit of wind on race day to cool you down a bit.

There will be a water stop at around half-way so that should help.

Although we will be selling t-shirts on the day, we cannot guarantee your size won’t be sold out.

Please pre-order by 1st July to ensure you secure your t-shirt.

As of this morning we have potentially only 45 places left for the Kirste 5, and after yesterdays great Echo Essex article promoting the race I wouldn't hang about if you want a place !

We are also holding a Charity Curry Night, the Wednesday before the race so if you want to come, socialise, meet the race team, and help raise extra funds please visit our website to reserve a place

Final Race Instructions are now being posted out with your Race Numbers, and can be found on our website.

They contain final race information, t-shirt order form, sponsor form, curry night details and maps.

We also have an online sponsor page for the event, where donations are welcome and where we will be logging all the money from the events to show our grand total from what I think will be a very emotional day.

ONLINE ENTRIES have now closed, but we do have limited entry on the day for the 5 mile race, and also for the 3k Fun Run.

 The "club" total raised was £ 5922.85, which has been split equally between the two charities.  

 With other sponsorship on the page the Team Total is now standing at £ 6778.85.
