Hi

I have signed up for this marathon, starting and ending in Tenby. This is my first marathon, and I am keen to hear from people who have run the course before. Any tips on training for this one would be welcome - I am aware it is a hilly one - but how hilly is the question! Any specific hill sessions you would recommend?

I would love to run this sub 3:30, but against me is the inexperiece, hills, weather, age etc. I'm fairly new to 'focused' running, having started in January. My half marathon time is 1:28 on a flat course barr a few undulations, and have had a couple of comfortable 20 mile long runs as part of my training.

Any experience of the course are most welcome

This is part of my normal training route. I did the Half last year. There is a very big hill in Penally early on in the race which leads up on to a road called the Ridgeway. . It's a really tough race with a couple of hard hills on the way back from Pembroke at Manorbier by the castle and then another really nasty one back up onto the Ridgeway at about mile 20.I don't want to put you off but it's a tough one for a first marathon.

Professorplod - no problems being told its going to be a tough course - this will hopefully curb my enthusiasm off the start line!

having done the Tenby half last year I can tell u it is very hilly. The marathon starts in Tenby runs out to Pembroke where the half starts and then half and full people follow the same route back ( with a bit extra for marathon runners added on in Tenby) it is a beautiful run but very hilly I did Cardiff half in 1.53 and I did Tenby half in 2.07 . The support and atmosphere is amazing but don' t believe the locals when they tell u no more hills !!!! There are hills all the way x was going to do the marathon but am coming back from injury so doing half again x

Had a great day out and smashed my target with a 3.02 debut marathon. The 3 hills were not too bad - it was the constant undulation with little or no flat sections to settle into a consistent pace.
Loved the finishing straight.
