Another nutter here too:-)

I appear to have just volunteered for the sub-20 bash.

Would someone please lash that Pixie to the mizzenmast?

I'm not mixing my metaphors. She had a Pirate buff at TW!
20/07/2006 at 14:59
no - you're the nutter Pix ;O)
20/07/2006 at 15:00

Excellent idea Pix - or even in the Peak district so is a bit closer for those of us darn sarf?

<Treacle is a bit worried though that she'll fail the audition and that no-one will want to walk with her:-(>

was only joking!

know only too well how a team has to pull together on this sort of event

(fastest ladies team (only ladies team) to finish Masters Hike, Huddersfield 1986)

oops - wasn't going to reveal that fact :O)
20/07/2006 at 15:11
Yay - running - I like running:-)
Get bored just walking and always end up wishing I was running anyway!

Big hills it is then:-) Peak district is pretty hilly tho!
20/07/2006 at 15:12
Thats it now NSC - you have previous form!

20/07/2006 at 15:13
Team "auditions" are vital. The factors that make for good friendships are not the same factors that make for good TW teams.
20/07/2006 at 15:14
Enell will be firmly in place Pix:-)
20/07/2006 at 15:14
no no no no no no no

ONLY ladies team to finish

and I was a teenager!
20/07/2006 at 15:14
Er ... Pixie, you're getting carried away and putting people into teams without their consent again. Stoppit, or I'll put slugs in your trainers next time you come to the Cavern.
20/07/2006 at 15:15

I'll provide the slugs :o)
20/07/2006 at 15:19
Providing slugs definitely sounds like a Boy Thing :o)

I trust none of the reports gave the impression that this event was easy. Because it's not. 20+ hours of time-on-feet is in a completely different league from even a plodding marathon. The underfoot conditions are unforgiving. The ascents add up to the equivalent of climbing Ben Nevis starting from sea level, and for every updulation there is a downdulation.

And you're not doing it for yourself, you're doing it for the team. You need to know that you can rein yourself in to the pace of the slowest. You need to know that you can BE the slowest and not be demoralised or overcome with guilt.

We long-distance runners, as a species, are driven by personal targets and personal goals. In an event like this, these have to be set aside. In 2005 we had to decide between letting a team member drop out and abandoning our sub-20 goal. We finished, as a foursome, in 25.05.

Half of the teams that entered this year didn't finish all together. It's a challenge not to be underestimated.
