Flat & fast by the sounds of it.  One of my friends has ran there and got a PB.

I did this one last year. It's very flat and fast. Fell slightly short of my PB but that was largely due to the congested start. Orgainsers say they have it sorted for this one. Let's hope so.

Got my name down for this one, coming down to see the in-laws, and it just happens to co-incide with this race

I like the flat runs, lets just hope the weather is calm and the start organised, sounds like a bit of congestion is likely at the start.

You would have thought a race of this size would have had chip timing, so there is not as much of a rush at the start

I'm coming from the IOW so hope I find it. Been told it is an easy cycle route from the Gosport ferry. Bus is too late I think.

My first time at this one. Looking forward to it, hoping the congestion at the start is not too bad, my last half of the year and wanted a PB!!! Being used to running on the Island where it is hilly I am quite hopeful if all goes to plan!

See you there!!!!

I'm coming from the Island too, with my club, IW Road Runners. What we normally do is get the Cat, then the Gosport Ferry, then a taxi. Definitely a PB course - I was a minute out last year, and I stopped for a pee at 2.5 miles!! If you think you'll struggle with directions, go to our website, I'm sure somone can help you!! www.isleofwightroadrunners.co.uk

Ah, you live over the road from me!!!! I am on the 0745 Cat. If you book it online there is a deal of £5 return, a bargain. :Look under the offers tab.Do the taxi's wait the other side for travellers or is it a case of booking one? There is a bus at 0910 but I felt that was cutting it a bit fine.

I e-mailed the roadrunners a couple of weeks ago from the site about joining the club but presume I did not do it right, that they have not received it. I am useless on the PC!!

I will look out for you, and say hello.

Further to the last.......the reason I ask all the questions is that I am travelling alone and am worried that I am going to get it wrong and be late or miss it!!!!

So if anyone wants a travelling partner, let me know.

I now have a couple of work collegues coming too so have got travelling company. See you all at the Fast Cat.

Sounding like you've got it all worked out now Lisa! Good luck with your PB attempt, I'm hoping to chip a bit off mine too next sunday.

Hi, due to a chest infection that's proving difficult to shift I won't be running this year's race.  As there are no entries on the day and I guess it's too late to apply for a number if you want to run this one please contact me on j_mallard@talk21.com  (Sooner rather later so I can sort the admin out with the race director!)

my first half marathon. lots of talk of pb's... im looking to get near 1hr50mins am i gonna be proping up the rear?
Show/hide user stats

No Richard, 1h50 is a pretty good time for a 1st half, probably even mid-field. Last runner last year was over 3hrs... results from last year are here if you want to check how you would have done.. hope the link works ok...

My second one - did New Forest back in September, but had only done 10m in training at that point, so felt the extra 3m

Do they group start positions on time, or do have to sort yourself out?

Hi, how does the field cope with all the turns / loops? Just found the race map here  - can anyone describe where we go? Or have a map my run link with arrows / mile markers?

Use this link. I mapped it based on the map on the Gosport Runners website.

The course looks very flat.

Haha, I'm still confused but definitely have a better idea thanks... Is there any issues with runners crossing over / fast runners having to run through slower runners in places where the course over-laps itself?
Show/hide user stats

You get that with every race don't you?

Did the GSR this year and we were hardly past the starting line when we had to pass people who were walking.

Show/hide user stats

that happens in lots of races CJBA

I looked at the route and it does look a bit complicated, using the same bits of airfield twice, I take it the will be cones or something to keep the course obvious. One section even looks like it crosses over the other, should be interesting, maybe they will install traffic lights?!? lol

I think they have said that there will be markers at the start, so you can arrange yourself into groups doing similar times, to cut back on mad overtaking in the first mile. fingers crossed

That's what I meant, (rhetorical question, really) you're always going to get people in front who go more slowly than you do, people behind who go more quickly, even when people are supposedly starting in their  "correct" pen.  It was a right mess in the GSR this year, people pushing, shoving, going around (ie outside) marshalls etc just to get a few yards further ahead - often then to run out of steam and come to an abrupt stop

I'm assuming that if there are cross-overs, the organisers will have sorted this out.

As it's not a big "charity fund-raising" type of event, I'm also assuming  that the people doing it will be "proper" runners (sorry,  awful choice of words but can't think of anything more apt) so race etiquette is more likely to apply.
