hey up. are there are any pirate veterans of european ironmans left who can answer a quick question for me? what's the deal with CO2 cylinders on planes? looks like easy jet have banned them, so will it be possible to buy them out in nice at the expo? or should i stash them somewhere in my checked baggage? cheers. gd.

g-dog - I've seen differing reports on these, I guess you could take the chance of putting them in the checked baggage and if they take them out so be it. They were on sale last year at Austria and on another thread Swiss Bobby said he'd pick up a couple of boxes to sell to us who've had to fly.
I phoned easy jet yesterday and they said no C02 cannisters, so i will bye buying in Nice, will be available at expo, i hope!!
cheers for that symes- much appreciated. i think i'll leave them behind- airport security folks not normally the most humourous people, so normally try to avoid irking them if possible! logistical issues aside (CO2 angst, packing bike in box which seems to small, trying to find a cornish pasty which has a sell-by date appropriate for being packed in my bike special needs bag) i'm getting very excited about this now!
cheers foggy. we're easy jet as well, so will leave them at home. i've got a couple of small trail pumps so i'll bring them both along just in case.

The other option is get to transition early on Sunday and 'borrow' someone else's, sure they wouldn't mind...
nice idea symes, i like that. i might adopt a similar approach in transition in order to upgrade my wheels. maybe for some of those deep section jobs- i've always fancied a set of those.
I have a track pump in the bike box for use by anyone - I'll also bring it down to the bike park on race morning for any last minute needs....

Cheers FB, would be v useful as currently I've half the house in my bike box and no bike, it's not going entirely to plan
symes - a suggestion - put the bike in first and then half the house.....you know it make sense....
amazingly we've got our luggage down to 1 bike box, 1 bag, 2 rucsacs........it means I will be wandering around Nice bollock naked but hey, what the hell!!

I only popped in to wish all good luck and now I've got the mental picture of FB naked which is going to stay we me all day....................................
i'm reassured to hear that you guys are also struggling a bit: packing a bike in a box is clearly a skill i don't have. i'm tempted to drive down to the LBS and get some help... if i ever do an ironman again i think i'll incorporate a 'bike packing' workout into my schedule at least once a week.
believe me sn - that will not be a good mental picture.....LOL!
