didn't run it this year but all the problems are the same as experienced by myself and many more last year - am sure that having a chip on the back of the number is less accurate than on the ankle

I really enjoyed running this race - much better than the Great Manchester Run. The Marshalls were great - really supportive, and it was great to finish in the athletics arena! Will definitly be doing it again next year - hopefully will beat my time!

Thanks Kittens. Found my picture.

Petedaddy - how did you manage to save a copy? When I right click on the image it just tells me I don't have permission to.

There are a few ways - Firefox (an alternative browser to internet explorer) has a page info tool that'll show you the exact website address for any media (images) on the page you're looking at. It was just a case of finding the image with the appropriate number, copying the address, and pasting it into the address bar manually.

Change the 'thumbs' part of the address to 'images' for a slightly larger version.

Actually, having said all that:

http://www.mickhall-photos.com/eos/galleries/manchester10k2007/images/DSC_0001.jpg

Change the 001 part to the number which is your picture :)

I would feel naughty for doing this, however I'm merely availing myself of something that is technically possible to do ;)

Come on guys,

It is only £3 a photo, and if everyone stole them then the photographer wouldn't be there?

If the photos were on display in his studio, i dont think people would be brave enough to steal them from under his nose!

It is a reasonably simple concept, the photographer provides a service, and we buy them from him - i think it is called running a business.

Yep, your right. For me this is a similar issue to music downloads.
I download a lot- but if something is good, I'll buy the cd. The quality of an image shown on the web is nothing in comparison to the quality of a real photo on decent paper.

Apart from sticking an image on your desktop/blog- there's not much point of using a web image.

However it doesnt matter to me.. no photo anyway!

Hello all

Hope everyone who took part on Sunday enjoyed the day which was the result of a great deal of time & effort by all concerned for your enjoyment.

The results are placed on the website immediately & amendments can be done - therefore if anyone is missed off then please email myself
grahamjackson7@btinternet.com & I will forward to the chip timing company.

Many thanks & hope to see you all next year

Results - please follow the link from www.manyharrier.co.uk

Dont quite understand if anyone said not to warm up near gantry ! News to me !

H S Sports use the 'bats' as a secondry device to ensure people arent missed & is a back up system.

I really enjoyed it have done the Bupa 10k a couple of times but not done any running for about 2 years. I thought this event would act as motivation, it did and reminded me how much running can be. Hopefully I'll be there next year to work on my rubbish time.

@nelliecat: True enough, but as Nick said, the resolution of the pictures on the web is pretty poor and even by fiddling with the website to download it - its not any better quality than the thumbnail you can look at for free.

Bottom line is, if you want a larger version, you'll still have to pay for it. My picture is awful, but my lady took a load of (better) pictures of me on the day anyway so this isn't a service I need.

Having said that, I could tell this photographer chap several ways to make his pictures more robust against people such as I downloading the smaller versions. There are lots of safeguards that could be in place, but aren't.

Marathon-pictures.com is pretty good, pretty robust, and a clever service I think. Searching by number and even what the person was wearing is impressive, although I feel sorry for the people that have to catagorise each photograph, it must take forever!

I thought that process was software driven~?

Surely there's no way they could catalogue a large marathon 30,000 plus with an average of 5 pics per person in such a short time.

If you're right- it must be the dullest job in the world!

- As for secure imaging, his first port of call should be a copywrite notice on the site!

Thanks Pete & Nick.

Nelliecat, can't really disagree with you. Have bought photo's before and will do so again if they are good ones.

Normally though you can always save a copy of the thumbnail of the photo, usually with copyright stamped all over it, and I do like to do that for all races I've done.

I'll certainly second that JoeSam. Great race. Who needs the BUPA 10k!

Jack - I thought it was supposed to be yesterday also. Have looked thru the programme listings on Channel M's website for the next week and there is no mention of it. Maybe it was just featured on the news?

Very good race, particularly the start, as we had enough space to spread out and find our own pace.

At the BUPA 10k i spent the first kilometer walking shoulder to shoulder in the crush and falling over groups of workmates who had run for 100 yards and were out of puff!

I am no Seb Coe, but always nice to get off to a good start.

Nick, if the process is indeed software driven, I'd be immensely impressed. It'd have to be an impressive piece of kit that could automatically discern race number and the types of clothes people are wearing!
