I anticipate there will be muddy conditions in this race. The worst parts are likely to be between miles 2 and 4, running mile12 - 13 in the half and various patches between miles 16 - 22 in the marathon. The exposed bits up on the downland should be fine, there is rarely any mud up there.

hiya... im planning to do the needles marathon for the first time and am a bit nervous about it ! I did my first marathon this april (london) in 4.48, and then decided to have a go at the isle of wight marathon earlier this month  -  found it much tougher coz of the heat and the undulations but finished in 4.58 which pleased me. now fancy having a go at the needles marathon to get the three in a row . is there a map of the course on line anywhere?

I am too tired to say all I wish to say as we had a long journey home but I couldn't go to bed without saying Thank you to the organisers and all who helped make that a great marathon. It was tougher than I could have imagined but being called by my first name at the check-points (after the split)  was a touch of style. It made me Smile and took  my mind of the pain for a while.

boom boom boom cha cha cha cha. Loved the drumming at the start.

Fantastic day. Brilliantly organised, lovely friendly people, beautiful weather and scenery.

As Waccyracer said, marshals calling us by our first names was a really nice touch - really caring people. Hope to do it again next year.

Many thanks to organisers and all helpers.

Thanks to all the marshalls your support was appreciated. Very wet terrain especially in the woods. I lost a trainer in a boggy bit as I run fairly slowly the ground was pretty churned up by the time I got to  14-22 miles >but apart from a bruised toe I feel fine. Iam looking forward to doing it again next year My time wasnt great but I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone

Ed - many thanks for a superb race. It was my 48th marathon and was well up there in the best i have done. As mentioned above the marshalls were all very supportive and the calling of individual names was excellent as it really helped to raise the spirits when i was flagging towards the end - please pass my thanks on to all who helped.
Can i ask if you know which local paper covered the event as although i died rather badly over the last few miles my wife was lucky enough to be first lady home and she mentioned she was asked for some details. If possible i will try and purchase a copy so if you could give me the name i would be very grateful.
Finally - is the race always held in the school holiday week as we would like to return next year but would really only be able to manage it if race was during this break.
Once again many thanks to you and all who helped

Hi Steve

The local paper is called the County Press. You may even get a report online which will save you the trouble of buying the paper which is published on Friday. Do contact me at the weekend and I will be happy to inform you if there is a picture of your wife in the actual paper.
