I have deliberated(dunno if its the correct spelling) over whether to start this thread or not but here goes
I'm not overly fat 35 yrs old, 5'4" small frame 9st13½lds this morning 35% Body Fat according to Tanita, i know its not entirely accurate but i need to losre it a bit it all seems to hang round my belly and my bu****ks
So i've decided as i drink a lot of coke and crisps which are partly my downfall i shall refrain from them Last year i did the same and lost 10lb in 6 weeks, but i wasn't running at the time.

I must add though i do not advocate diets where you restrict your food intake i believecutting out/down on the bad habits help

Good luck Pammie, I agree on your feelings about the restrictive bit, life is far too short, and food is far too scrummy (well, maybe not raw cheese...)

Body Fat levels very high Pammie. Diet is important but obviously the more u run the more body fat you burn. I think if u watch what u eat by cutting down on fats and sugars-try running or training a bit harder and this will turn ur body fat % lower quickly.
Gud Luk Pammie and very brave to expose all on the thread!

 coke and crisps not good
coke - the phosphurous in it can interfere with calcium uptake and may lead to bone thinning
crisps - lots of salt - higher blood pressure
also full fat coke is loaded with sugar - bad for teeth and may affect insulin mechanisms long term
crisps - fat too
if you cut them out for a bit completely try and make them treats in the future - if you try and restrict them completely you will probably fall off the wagon and go back to being a crisp and coke junkie gain !!

Thank you guys I have found by exposing my training on these threads i have been consistent something i've struggled with before so i'm hoping doing this, this way will also have a positive effect

Your body fat seems very high. I have a Tanita scale as well and I put it in 'athlete mode' and it usually shows 10% +/- depending on HYDRATION, usually lower in the mornings and higher in the evening. However, those scales seems to over estimate.
Long slow distance runs should be perfect to burn off a bit. Don't worry about miles, mainly go for time on your feet.
I decided this week no more diet coke for me. I usually had up to 4 bottles a day, with the effect that I couldn't sleep on some days, makes you hyper. Further the phosphoric acid sucks out all the good calcium in your muscles. For now I mainly stick to orange/apple juice.
|
 |
watch the sugar and fruit acid in juices tho - good idea is to water them down - 1/2 fruit juice 1/2 water
oh and good luck pammie

Pammie i agree with URR-Lengthen the time spent running at a comfortable pace (Base Training)! Uve made the biggest step by wanting to do it-so go forest go!

Sounds like a sensible way to lose weight. Agree with Bune, it doesn't do any harm to have them as 'treats' now and again,
I stopped drinking coke, diet coke and instant coffee five years ago after reading that they caused cellulite...still no cellulite, although I drink loads of filter coffee.
Good luck!

Hiya Pammie - I've just given up coke - even the diet variety - for the reason Bune said - it's not good for the mineral content of my menopausal bones.
My husband bans crisps from the house, as he knows I just eat them till they're all gone. Not good if I want to get my fat% down (under 30 would be nice...)
It sounds as though you have a really sensible, workable plan - let us know how it goes.

"phosphoric acid sucks out all the good calcium in your muscles"
Where did you here this Urban road runner? I`m not saying your wrong but I would be interested to see any evidence for this. I drink maybe 4 or 5 cans of fizzy drink a day. My favourite drink is IRN BRU.

The Enigma of phosphorus by Frank Horwill. He refers to an experiment carried out by Dr. Noakes (author Lore of Running).

I saw something on tv or somewhere where they dropped a coin in a glass of coke and the coating on the coin stripped away, still didn't put me off initially but imagine what it does to your inside
Lynne i'm the same cannot stop at one bag of crisps been pigging out for last few days before today managed to polish of the pringles
Well i've nearly survived my 1st day long way to go.

I know, Pammie - I try to substitute by crunching sesame-flavoured ricecakes, but it's just not the same.
Good luck xxx

Morning woke up this morning with a blinding headache. It's eased off now and am about to go for my run. I've had these headaches before when i've given up the coke and know they may last a few days.

caffeine withdrawal - people who give up coffee often have them - as do peeps who drink a lot of coffe during the week at work then dont at weekend
