Stylish - I tried the Nike Air Kantara 2 in my early days. They about crippled me! Hope the Structure Triax work for you.

Scoobs - Delighted for you that it is not the dreaded shin splints - HUGE sigh of relief. Make sure you do those stretches ;-)

Cas - In my current club (although I've not been running with them since July) there were 3 groups, and I was really too fast for Group 2 and nowhere near fast enough for Group 1. with my old club there were grumbles from time to time about people being left behind, but NEVER alone. there is no way you should have been left to run alone. When I go back to the club next Spring (when it's light enough not to have to run around a chav estate) then I might suggest making a new group!

Happyas - Thanks. One of my friends said that I should be really pleased that I did 1:58 without really having to try too hard. I'll get there. I need to build up a base of mileage before even thinking about trying to get faster. Just really enjoying it at the minute - no pressure :-)

Tracey - That PB will be worth the wait. why not break the 10 mile PB en-route to a half-marathon PB?

------------------

6.2 slow miles for me today. (66%WHR). Legs still ached a bit from Sunday's exertions, but the run felt good.

Hello all!

The dreadmill indeed! I did a hills session on there tonight with the personal trainer at the gym. It flipping hurt! It doesn't allow you to slow down on the climb which I think is the hardest thing about it. Mind you, managed to last the whole session on there without collapsing so fingers crossed something's going right.

Have to start concentrating on some more weights now I think. As soon as I up my distances, I'm finding that me knees are a bit achey a day or two later. Think it's just that I'm so lazy when it comes to weights and (naughty I know) with stretching properly after a run. Slapped wrists!

Anyway, best get on. Another crazy day at work tomorrow. We have a inspection at school from the local education authority next week so it's all a bit manic!

HY4 - Well, I hope it works out well for you. Good luck.

Delia - Maybe more stretching and strengthening will help. If I don't do my daily stretches I get all sorts of knee trouble. Always the left leg only though!

Hy4 - great news! You must be excited? i am looking for another job too as my section is being centralised by central government so in 2 years will seize to exist! Oh well, gives me a bit of time...

Mrs Delia - weights are dull! I have to make myself do them and indeed when I started running the only thing I did was run as I had no idea about - well - much really! :0)

teenage scoobs has just had hysterics as I am sat here having done my eccentric calf exercises with a bag of peas on my leg!

Mr Bump - I DO have the dreaded shin splints - Boo Hoo :0( But not a stress fracture - YIPEE! :0)) So continuing with off road and treadmill unitl better. Your training sounds like it is going really well, pleased for you.

So today the dreadmill it is - after work.

Have a great day out there all. :0)

Hy4 - how exciting you're going to be a fellow Hants person!! I love it down here I have to admit! Good luck with the move! I'm only up the road if you need a local (and friendly!) face to reassure you!

Nowt to tell this end.

Doing my first race of '07 on Sunday and can't wait! Hopefully all this training will start to pay off and my times will improve!

Weights are no fun at all...must force myself on the machines at the gym!!

You know I can't believe how runner friendly the county is!

As soon as I said where I was going to be living I had the offer of a pose running buddy who is in Bishops Waltham.

Where abouts are you (sorry I can't remember where you said)! Was it Denmead or a similiar sounding place?

Up in Warwickshire I tried and tried to get a running partner for the long runs last winter and had absolutely no luck!

Shades - Thank you!

Did my last run on weds - just a short 4 mile plod - and had a sports massage after, which showed there are no probs with my legs etc.

Spent last night getting my kit together and organising Mr Cas to meet me at the finish - I think I'm more concerned about him navigating the underground alone than the race itself! Mr Cas is a country boy at heart and is used to relying on me to guide him round London!

Off to stay with my Auntie tonight, who lives a couple of miles from the start.

Just a morning of work to get through now.

Best of luck Cas! How far is one of those mad ultra things then? Hope all goes well for your first ever one, how exciting! :0))

Mrs Delia - best of luck for your race on Sunday

Hy4 - this time next week you'll be there....:0))

Mr Bump - no worries, I'm always missing bits and peices! :0))

Tready run. Did a tempo run, couldn't help myself as it is sooooo boring on tready! So 5 miles done in 45 mins, with warm up and good warm down and blast in the middle. It felt SO good to be running fast again! Well ok not fast compared to many, but fast for me! :0))

Long run tomorrow - <wibble> silly as 14 miles, I know I can do 14 miles.....Yes I can, Yes I can, I can, I can, I can,......

Of course you can Scooby, you will be fine.

All the best for your ultra at the weekend Cas. I will be thinking of you and hope the weather is kind.
Can't wait to read the report.

I ran on the dreadmill again yesterday, 1.75 miles with no knee trouble so that is a total of 5 miles for this week. Wow. But at least I have been relatively pain free for a couple of weeks although the knee does feel weak an unstable at times. I think it may be a good idea to go the doctors and request a scan. I have been avoiding doing this as I don't really want to know if its bad news but I know I have to face up to it sometime.

Cas - Wishing you lots of luck in your first ultra. You know you can do it!

Scoobs - And you know you can do 14 miles :-) Well done on the tempo run.

Happyas - It sounds like you're not too happy. Pai-free is good though - and maybe this period of building up from scratch is what you need. You mean your doctor will actually get you sent for a scan if you ask for one? Out my way, I've given up with the GP - it's always a different time everytime you go, and you are given the impression that you're wasting the GP's time if it is a sports injury.

------------

Less than 9 days to go before I attempt to pace PSC to a new half-marathon PB...

Cas - good luck from both of us here. Sure you'll be fine - or should I say, sure Mr Cas will be fine!

Went out for a 4 miler (nice and slow) tonight and got caught in freezing rain - not nice. Left calf tight now. Good news - treated myself earlier today - new socks/ronhill tights!

Mr B - not sure if I will actually get the scan when I ask for it. My daughter who has recently had knee surgery, had to undergo 4 years of physio and orthotics and repeated visits to the hospital to complain it was doing no good, before they finally agreed to do an arthroscopy, even a scan didn't show the problem. The problem they fixed was nothing like the one they had originally diagnosed and soon after finally having the surgery her knee was almost ok.
I have no faith in them at all and if I do go and see them about it, I am not going to tell them I am a runner.

PSC - new kit is guaranteed to make you run better!

Happyas - Good plan, not telling them you're a runner.

PSC - Hope the calf is feeling better. I agree with Happyas re: new kit :-)

I'm in Portchester, Hy4. Just between Portsmouth and Fareham.

Happyas, hope things get sorted with your injury.

Thanks for the good wishes scooby. Just hope I manage to get a respectable time! (There's a first time for everything!!)
