just to add to the CO2 issue, there were places to buy canisters over there as the expo is reasonable in size, also I think its Swiss Bobby is taking 2 boxes of CO2 so you should be OK. When I went to Lanza this year they were waiting for the cyclists and they knew the race was on and their policy was this. NO CO2 canisters, you have been warned and if we find them in your bike box after you have said there are none, we won't put the bike on the plane, however this was also after it had gone through the xray machine so you wouldn't have known until you got there and there was no bike. You only need 2 for the race anyway but I suggest you don't use any to pump up tyres for the race, use a track pump, CO2 in tyres doesn't last long, just long enough to make sure you get home if punctured + a day or so, not the same as normal air. Good luck

All packed ready for the off, I bike bag, and I'm struggling to fill one small bag, think I'll just walk around starkers with FB, save a lot of hassle

thanks iron rose. sounds like it's not worth the risk. interesting point about the CO2 not staying in the tubes? wonder why that is? doesn't sound like its due to a molecule size/butyl permeability issue as CO2 is significantly bigger than molecular nitrogen, which is the principal component of air. hmmmm. something to ponder during my many hours on the bike on sunday.

could just use the pirate pump when you set your bike up and if necessary just give your tyres a co2 top up on the morning of your race. only issue i can see is you may accidently pump your tyres up too much or not enough or blow them up as you're too nervous. there will be track pumps around i'm sure, but at imde with everyone a bit stressed there were almost fist fights over who was going to use the pump next.

Holy moley JD - hope none of them see that! Was it a St Christopher he was wearing or is there a patron saint of cyclists?

IM - knew there was something I'd forgotten to buy for France! Clutters - Bad luck, but also congratulations! I reckon triathlon will appear to be very cheap compared to the new arrival!

Disaster, wife was ill, vomiting just before we left, got 10 miles from front door, then still retching she asked to be taken home, so about turn. Got home and she demanded I go on my own, in turmoil. What do I do, daughter rang, explained all, she said she would come with me, Colleen agreed, so one name change later and £150 worse off, here I am sat at airport, feeling gutted for Colleen, she has rang and said she will try to get a flight tomorrow, hope so. On my way but feeling gutted, lets hope she can get a flight tomorrow.
