Having realised that I've clocked about 450 miles on my first ever running shoes I decided to get a new pair. I duly did this at a decent running shop where I got properly assessed etc. However, I forked out the full RRP for the shoes (less a discount voucher I had). They're Asics Gel-Cumulus 13 if that makes any odds.
As I'm back in training for my second half marathon later this year I reckon I'll be doing a lot of miles quite soon in the new trainers so am contemplating buying the same shoe (different colour) from Amazon about £40 cheaper.
I'd be interested to know if others buy two (or more) pairs at once, and whether there's any reason not to buy from Amazon - given I know the shoe fits.
I agree with PhilPub. Once I knew what shoes "worked" for me - i've bought pairs from Wiggle, Amazon etc. I'd always get the gait analysed at first but as you say "if the shoe fits"! There's are lots of stores you can use - but just make sure that when you order it's the correct size (e.g. not just size 7.5 but is the width correct?). This was a mistake that I made - I ordered one pair that were the right size but the wrong width;
I get my gait reanalysed once every 12/18 months dependent upon what i've been doing. When I broke my leg it was more frequent as my style of running changed but now i'm more static - I do it.
It's also always good practice to have 2 pairs of shoes on the go. One for your longer runs and one for your shorter ones.
Thanks all. I agree with the "doing the right thing" about buying from the shop that did the gait analysis. The pain was lessened by a 15% voucher anyway (which oviously they were giving away to attract my custom in the first place).
I'll wait for the next pay cheque and pay the internet a visit!
