If you're thinking about using a Heart Rate Monitor then you could do worse than try one of these.

Tchibo HRM Special

No idea how good/bad it is but Tchibo stuff is usually ok.

I bought my HRM from Tchibo when it was £17.99. Am very pleased with it.
