Garmin 305

Speed all over the place...

Has anybody had a problem with their 305's pace figures being wildly innacurate and taking a long time to show a pace that is remotely close to the actual pace being run?

I've noticed my Garmin being very erratic over the last 3-4 weeks. This is in areas of Brighton where I don't normally have any problems with finding/keeping a GPS signal.

I know the pace varies on Garmins when running and they not always totally accurate but it's really annoying when the garmin says your running at 11:20 min/mile when you know it's at  at 10:3omin/mile at the very least.

Thanks!

yep, I've had this problem sometimes and I now have average pace on the screen too

I just set my forerunner to show average pace for the lap, and then have it set to auto laps every mile. This means it gradually gets more accurate through the mile, before going a bit wonky when just starting a new one. It also means you don't have a totally up to date measure of current pace, but it's better than being all over the place all the time though.
Current speed seems to be much more reliable whilst on a bike.

The Garmin footpod is much better at showing current pace. It works with the 305 but whether it's worth it just to sort this issue is enough matter.

I'm not sure the footpod is worth the cost. I've had my 305 for ages so if I was going to spend money on another piece of Garmin equipment I'd probably just upgrade to one of the newer forerunners.

I'm going to set the screen up to show average pace and see how I get on with that.

Now if only I could justify buying myself a shiny new model...

I have the same setup as Exiled Claret - a screen readout of lap pace. It does jump about for the first 0.1 of a mile or so but then settles down. The FR60, which is going very cheap these days, does an excellent job of real-time pace. I had one and really liked it but the screen kept misting up so I took it back.

But anyway, you are of the female argument and therefore need no excuse to go shopping.
