Garmin Connect Plugin Problems

Hi Chaps and Chapesses.

I can't get my Garmin Forerunner 305 to link with Mapmyrun or Garmin Connect on either my home(Vista) or work computer(Windows 2000).

I have registered my product with Garmin, downloaded the software updates and the comunicator plugin but it won't work.

When I go to the Comunicator Plugin Test Page it doesn't advise whether it's installed or not. When I go to My Dashboard it just states that it's "Searching for Device" and shows the icon for the fact it's doing something but won't move on from that.

Does anyone have any advice please?

Have you paired the watch to your computer? I think you need to right click on the Garmin Ant Agent at the bottom of the screen, choose Pair with new devices > Enabled and then follow the prompts. If you are still stuck and noone else replies, try the garmin support forum.

Thanks LN. I'll try that.

No, I can't get it to work. I've downloaded the ANTagent but it's not appearing anywhere on my toolbar or desktop. Looks like I'll have to stick to the cr*p trainig centre it came with.

I did email Garmin through support over a week ago but they haven't replied.

I don't understand why it's not working but if you go to Start All Programs, can you see Garmin > Ant Agent? Any reason to think it's not installed properly? You need to have Ant agent installed.  There's a few people on the support forum that jsut help out (they don't work for Garmin) and from the times I've needed help, have had replies much faster on there than from Garmin. Also, have a search through their archive for similar problems.

I've now sussed that it won't work on my work pc as we're in the dark ages with Windows 2000 but that doesn't explain why it won't work on Vista at home. Thanks for your help but I think I'll give up now. It makes me too irate.

What browser are you using?

I've had issues with uploading data to GraminConnect when I'm using Firefox but it's fine with IE7.

Might be worth a go.

Thanks Gertie. I'm not on Firefox at home and it's likely to be the latest IE.

I thought the ANTagent was for the wireless dongle you get with the 405 and 310?

I have a 305 and get a little USB docking station with it.

Have you installed Garmin Training Center first as I think this has the USB drivers that need installing first.

A few sanity checks:

Has all the software (from the Garmin CD or the website, wherever) been installed?

The way to find this out is

  • click on Start
  • click on Control Panel
  • click on Programs and Features
  • Look in the list that brings up

If you have a 305 then ignore stuff about the ANT agent. Your garmin should be attached to the computer via the USB cable and the little cradle.

You should have Training Center installed (don't worry I'm not going to suggest you use it for anything but testing). Can you get runs into that from your Garmin?

If you can, then it's an issue with your browser - possibly how it is configured rather than an actual bug.

Yes, I've installed the Training Centre package that comes on the cd and it uploads the activities from my Garmin. There isn't a problem with that, apart from it being rubbish!

So you're using IE, yes?

If you go to Tools/Internet Options/Security, what's the security level for the internet zone? Is it High, Medium-High, Custom or what?
