Small Drinks Pouch
I have a half marathon coming up in September and my plan is getting into the more longer runs now.
I am not keen on holding water bottles and for a half marathon I only feel like I will need a small amount of water. Is there anything out there that anyone can recommend. I did look at the Camelbak Hydration bladders (Camelback Catalyst) but even there quite big I wish there was just sachets of water I could get out my pocket!
Any recommendations at all please?
Look on eBay for roll-up water bottles. I've got one I put a few gulps in for long training runs, which fits easily into a back pocket. Once empty it rolls up to almost nothing.

Thats okay. I am talking about both. If I can carry something really really light with a small amount I might be able to skip the water station which would be great!

That kind of thing, yeah. Mine holds something like a maximum of 180ml.
Have a look at the Salomon Sense s-lab hydro flask thingy.
That looks good but it seems to still be like carrying a small bottle too me.
I'm also someone who only wants a few sips if that in a half marathon. But I wouldn't bother drinking anything at all on a training run of less than 15 miles. It might not be worth the hassle if you're really not thirsty on training runs, except maybe just once or twice to get used to sipping/swallowing on the move as practice for race day.
Hi Literatin I did feel a bit thristy on a training run after 9 miles today and it's something I would practice using. Is there anything you use yourself?
I usually use a bottle belt like this one if I'm doing a long run. I only fill it about a third or half full. The bottle sits in the small of your back and it's less annoying than carrying something in your hand.
You won't need anything for a half
Depends on whether the drink stations are sensibly placed - halfway can be a stretch for first-timers and novices.
It depends how long you're going to take as well. If you're running for an hour and a half you're less likely to get thirsty or deydrated than if you're running for three hours. If the OP is thirsty on a 9 mile training run he might as well get used to drinking while running, especially if it's hot on the day of the race.
literatin - don't you find that the bottle belt "rides up" whilst you are running? I've tried a couple of different options and can't get one that doesn't end up round my middle instead of on my hips which is where I would prefer it.
I'm going to customise a pair of shorts and the bottle belt with Velcro to try to get it to stay in place. It's so annoying as on my long runs (15 - 20m) I only need 500ml or so at most in hot weather and the camelback is overkill and overheavy.....

Elstead runner - no I don't, but that's because I wear it tightened round the smallest part of my waist. I don't think it'd work on the hips. If you wear it so that the bottom of the bottle is pointing towards the small of your back it's comfortable enough.
