What to look for
Hey, I'm 5'9" too and really struggle with lengths. It's the reason I run in cropped leggings instead of full ones. I've given up trying to find them long enough! I've ordered a size 14. I'm a 12, but I much prefer things to be too loose than too tight. Comfort in paramount in this game!
Anyway, I'm hoping for sub-60 on Sunday (it's the Swithland 10k - local to me). I know I'm capable and have done it in training runs, I just need to be careful to pace myself from the start and not get carried away. I've joined the local running club and they're loaning me a team vest to run in, which is actually quite exciting!! After that I have my 10k Race for Life in July and then I've gone and entered the Leicester Half Marathon in October... ARGH!!! Need to get my ass in gear for that one.
I think a 10k in July would be perfect for you because it's a while until your next one - go for it and don't worry about who else is racing. Just try to beat your own time
Hermitage Harriers (Whitwick) as they're my nearest and they also meet at my gym. I've not done Swithland before - this is my first 10k race, but some of the people from the club have and they have reassured me about the hills. I thought about the Notts HM, but plumped for Leics because it's more local.
Skort arrived today. Having a rest tonight, but I'll try it out tomorrow. Feels comfortable enough
I forgot to mention Hermitage! have you done the Hermitage 10K? I did it last year, it's brutal, I think the first 6k is all uphill. I feel that Swithland will be wet, the weather looks unsettled. Why not do Notts HM and Leics? use Notts as training!

I've not done the Hermitage 10k as I only started running in March this year, but I've been thinking about it. I think I might just volunteer to marshall this year and see how it looks. I mapped out the route the other night and yes, 5km of uphill at the start. Looks like a killer. Might give it a go on my own once this 10k is out of the way. I'll be thrilled with anything less than 1hr. Whatever I get will be a PB though, so I'm happy to go with the flow. I'm #245. Give me a kick up the arse if you spot me flagging at the back
Went out in my new skort this morning and although it feels pretty comfy, the cycling shorts kept riding up my thighs... which I could then hear slapping together as I ran.. nice!! It wasn't such a problem (more annoying than anything) because it was cold this morning, but it's going to be awful in the heat and is exactly what I was trying to avoid. Think I should have gone for the 12 instead as they would have clung to my thighs tighter and ridden up less. Oh well. I'll just have to make sure I put vaseline on the inside of my thighs to stop them getting sore.
Oops sorry you are not keen on them LK! I don't find they ride up but then they're pretty short to start with aren't they.
Maybe you can flog them on the bay of e or on here if you aren't keen!
Hi, I too have short issues, baggy ones ride up and rub but am not brave enough to wear lycra shorts so used to combine them, but now I have found these
they combine the 2 principles and are fabulous (only afford one pair for now). Like the skorts though. have a good weekend
ph0enix I'm doing a bit of wearing two pairs of shorts at the moment too! I'm getting over a groin injury (in fact am expecting all clear from physio tonight - at last) so have got a sexy pair of compression shorts to avoid re-injury. Thing is they're even tighter than normal Lycra shorts so I've taken to putting on a pair of baggy shorts on top just for a bit of modesty.
I may give it another month or two just to be really sure I'm fixed then go back to my usual lycra shorts. They probably won't fit though due to all the exercise I haven't been doing for three months due to my injury
