Mindboggling Fell Shoe Choices

I am currently in the market for some fell shoes as where I am moving to, really does call for them. I thought I had it all figured out and would buy the Inov8 mudroc 290's, but since then I have looked at some more like the saloman's, anyone out there who can help?

Hi invo8 have great grip on wet grass but cushion rubbish if you run on hard ground.Salomans never used them have a great time fell running.

There is a small, but vocal number of people that are now swearing at Innov8, rather than praise them, owing to some falling apart a bit quick.

I went for the Mizuno Wave Harrier in the end because:
- I fit Mizuno shoes
- I didn't want too light a shoe, but I did want grip
- I've never had a Mizuno shoe fall apart
- They are quite cheap compared to some
- They have better grip than Salomans and most trail shoes, but not as good as Walsh PBs.

Cheers

I've got Mudroc 280s (the fluorescent yellow ones) and definitely swear by them rather than swearing at them, though in the absence of fells in Brum I'm currently insulting them by wearing them on the indoor climbing wall.

They've coped with a fair bit of trail and tarmac as well as taking on anything that the hills could throw at them without much stud wear.

get some walsh's pb, they'll go up and down the mountains even without u being in them.

I foolishly bough some Innov8s. A busted ankle and the toe rand coming off happened in the first two races. They also give me blisters.

I'm going back to Walsh's

Walshes are too narrow for my feet, alas, as are the NB fell-shoes with the orange laces. It was a close call between more Inov8s and the Adidas Swoop last time I went shoe-shopping.

So which was it, Velociraptor?

I think they now make a wide fitting Walsh (PB Ultra?) which I plan on investigating. I always thought that NBs came in width fittings - I had a pair of the original RX Terrains and found them a bit over-cusioned, though I think they're slimmed down now.

The last and heel counter of the Mudrocs don't suit my feet, though I do like the Flyrocs - it's a pity they don't have a more Walsh-like sole, though that was the aim of my question re Roclites elsewhere on this forum. I've not had any problems with Inov-8 durability and would definately get another pair of Flyrocs if only for muddy forest running.

I had a pair of Inov8 Mudrocs and holes appeared in the side mesh first. They disintergrated fully after barely 100 miles. Went back to Walsh PB's...bliss.

I Swear at Mudrocs

I swear by Walsh PB's

Hmmm, lots of ideas, much appreciated, Maybe the best way to learn is to keep trying different shoes. seems to me I'm just going to bite the bullet and buy a pair from impulse at the time of purchase and hope they are OK. I suppose everybody have different experiences with different shoes.

The old trial and error test!

I've heard that inov-8s are great if you get a good pair (although I didn't and have now abandoned all hope).

Salomons pinch my feet.

I live a couple of miles from the fells and wore my walsh studs out on the roads

My new mizuno wave harriers seem great but I've only had them for 2 weeks.

Greyhound, I went for the Inov8s - Flyrocs on that particular shopping expedition - because they fitted just a fraction better. No regrets about the decision! My only disappointment with Inov8s has been that the Terrocs are a slightly floppy fit on my feet, and they'll be OK on trails in the winter because I can wear thick socks and they were fantastic for the last section of an off-road 62-miler in the summer when my feet had swollen a bit.

I've got some Inov8 flyroc 310s and they're perfect for trails, grass and a bit of road.

They look damn stylish too :o)

V - Good choice! I have Terrocs and Flyrocs too, but definately rate the Flyrocs over the Terrocs as being a much grippier and "faster" shoe - perhaps marginally less cushioned (less rubber on the sole?)

best fell shoe out probably is the speedcross...is a saloman shoe and as someone said it does come up a little bit small.lotsa cushioning and the other alternative i would say would be the swoop..pb extremes are pretty indestructible though.
speedcross all the way:
-ripstop upper
-scs cushioning in heel(like adiprene)
-multi directional grip
