can anyone recommend a good mp3 player to use when running

Denise,

I'm using an i-shuffle at the moment and it's great. Loads of music and it jumbles it up so you never know what is coming next. Have had two other MP3 players before and have always gone for the cheapest for use when running so I don't worry about damaging it with sweat/rain/mud/falling over. I'd just go for something small and simple, you need something you can tuck away easily and something that is really easy to use when you are on the move, if you've got too many functions to mess around with you'll only end up running into a lamppost. Cheap really is good.

I agree with DB, ipod shuffle is easy to use, not too expensive and weighs very little.

I have bought a clip and silicone skin for mine to protect it a bit.

I just bought an ipod shuffle yesterday - am very pleased with it - reasonable price, easy to use, very lightweight. I haven't had chance to run with it yet as I've been struck down with a cold but hope to get out and try it tomorrow. I've also discovered that my Philips earphones (with clips over the ears) are compatible with it - another bonus!

I love everything Apple but I hear sont has a decent mp3 player out too.

It all depends on what you want from a player.

How about an iPod nano? see if you can try one out in a shop.

This is what I'd recommend you do:

1. Download iTunes - www.apple.com/itunes/
it's free & will organuse your music like a dukebox

2. insert a music CD (not Sony*) & iTunes should load it up & fetch all the track & artist names from the internet.

3. click top right button to rip to aac or mp3 audio files. Now you music will be stored on the PC

4. repeat

5. make a playlist of mp3s, then select burn & make an MP3 CDrom - take this to your local PCworld or whereever & they should let you load up your favourite tracks to whatever mp3 player & have a mess around

go in the week as weekends are likely to be bust & have the part timers in

I got a Napa from Dixons - 1Gb for about £50. It's great. Only downside is battery life is only about 8 hours.

You may want some kind of device to hold it in when running (it normally ahngs round your neck). A bit of tubigrip on your upper arm?
