Does anyone have any suggestion for long leg coverings, which are not unbearably hot, for off road running to protect my little legs from the nettles?

Try your local Orienteering shop: "O" events have a total body cover rule for just this reason and there are plently of lightweight airy leggings that will do the trick (even if some of them do look like pyjamas). Ultrasport in Shropshire would be my first port of call (they have a website: check Google)

Thanks very much. Off to Google!

I have a thin long lightweight pair of trousers (or leggings or whatever, they're not tight fitting but not wide either) that I use for orienteering but the nettles go right through it...
Bought them in a running shop though, maybe the orienteering ones are a different material.

JJ - theres a thread on training that suggests that nettle stings might actually be good for ur performance!

Maybe someone could invent an anti nettle cream out of dock leaves or something

Nettle stings are excellent for the joints I understand. After a while you barely notice them.

Your not meant to smoke them steady !

We have nettle run every few weeks or so and though I try to avoid them, they always find me. It may be something in the sting but I swear that my legs feel better after being stung.

Nettles i can cope with, it's the thorns! But I have a loose water resistant pair of Asics trousers that are cool and light and don't let the stings through. Girly ones. Don't know if you're a girly, JJ!

I just grab a dock leaf and rub the area then carry on.

As far as i know... nettles stings are transmitted via tiny silica needles and i dont know of any cream or tight that can stop glass! I got stung tonight wearing standard trackie bottoms. I go for the dodge method when wearing shorts - i am sure those high knees and bambi jumps does some good.
