Gaitors?

I understand that there is a company that specialists in sand gaitors to cover training shoes, does any know of it?

Also, any advice on gear for a sand marathon would be useful, especially which trainers to get.

Thanks

Wasn't there some gaitors for running shoes in an old copy of the RW a bit back? They did some gear for ultra runs across deserts or something?
Have you tried Cotswold Outdoor or Field and Trek?

North Face do scree gaitors. Haven't used them but they might be useful.

So do a French company called Raidlight, available mail order.

You might need to create something a bit better than these to cover the entire top of the shoe though, as I believe sand is great at getting in under the laces

Hi

Please send me your e-mail address. keith.flood@ge.com

I am running the MDS next year and have got some pictures I can send you of home made gaitors. Also a web site of were to buy parachute material. These realy need to be made by a seamstress and to fit the actual shoes you are going to wear.

Monique has run MDS - she sometimes hangs out on the Tri threads. I think she's doing London.

Then again, Mon probably ran it in stilettos or mules or summat. V trendy is Mon.

monique makes gaitors for mds, which glue to your trainers and are apparently are 100% sand resistant (so she says)

e-mail her she might even do you some.

I too completed this year MDS and would say forget buying them and make your own.

I'd never touched a sewing machine before but borrowed one and made mine and attached to my shoes (asics kayano) in a day. Then got a cobbler to run a stitch around the bottom for extra security. Worked like a dream keeping the sand out.

For further info/pics - of the gaiters ;o)

drop me an email steve.greedy@nottingham.ac.uk
