Spikes or Studs

Which to buy

I've been running Cross-Country in spikes for years now. However, in recent races, I've had real problems running round muddy corners, and down hills. Some team mates run in studs, and say they never slip etc.

I need some new spikes for the cross-country season, but should I buy studs instead, and if so what type of studs?

As an observation, the Walsh Taiga has both spikes and studs.
