The shoes you wear for the road don't matter, just make sure you get something comfortable for XC.
You choice is either fell shoes (walsh, inov-8 or gladiator) or xc spikes.
All the serious running shoe companies do a XC spike.
I did XC last year and started in the inov-8 mudroc 290, but they hurt on the heel and after 6 races I swopped to adidas neptune spikes.
All spikes feel strange when you wear them in the shop but on grass they feel OK, but if you come across hard ground during a race there not so good. This is were fell shoes are better.
I wear the fell shoes for training on grass and the spikes for xc racing.
