I've got a speedo hat.

seems tight enough but doesn't really keep the water out after about 10 minutes! Still better on the hair than not wearing one though.

Does anyone have one that does stay watertight?

surely you would need a watertight seal all the way round ... impossible I would have thought ??

I don't think the purpose of a swimming hat is to keep hair dry. More to keep head lice out (or in for that matter) and to keep hair out of face and eyes.

And to stop long hair clogging up the filters?

And to identify swimmers. Little Mint's team all wear blue hats at swimming galas. I can't tell who's who but I know which swimmers to cheer on.

I think sealing swim hats are sold by the nose clips which do not disappear after one trip to the pool and the goggles which don't make your forehead look like a cling on or leave big red rings round your eyes. Try by the striped paint..... ;-)

ive got a silicon one - tight fitting and it doesnt let in water

those fabric ones wont keep water out - nor will one that is not pulled down far enough onto your head

I saw the best useless use of a swimming hat the other night: girl with longish length hair - pink swimming hat, hair loose below the hat: totally defeating the above reasons of a hat: hair not floating about in the pool (eurgh, how horrible is it when someone else's hair gets around your fingers as you're swimming?). She must have been wearing it as an odd sort of fashion statement. And what are the best goggles?: mine are so old and scratched I can barely see out of them. I only wear them as I have to swim in contact lenses!

Goggles are sooooooo much better than they used to be. We buy Zoggs but only because that's what they sell at the pool and we usually buy because we have forgotten to bring and so end up with multitudes of goggles. As I said though, loads better than they used to be.

Go on Dawn, treat yourself to a new pair.

Short hair so don't wear a hat but I do have Aqua Sphere Eagle goggles Dawn and they are ace! So much better than my old Speedo ones.

Thanks guys.

If they aren't actually supposed to be water tight then that's OK!

I was sure my school swimming hat used to keep my hair dry though, but that was over 20 years ago....maybe dementia is setting in.

I used to have to wear a waterproof hat to swim in at school because i had grommets. They are around, but they are incredibly uncomfortable, really tight round your head, too hot, painful to get on and off, and rip your hair to bits.
Best avoided!
