sounds like you are not washing them on a hot enough wash. Look at the programe, use fabric conditioner and let them dry thoroughly.

Hence the name "Smelly Helly"! Also make sure you use non-bio powder - can't remember why that's important though...Amanda

Oh, and when you've sweated profusely in them don't put them straight in the washing basket to fester. Let them air dry first....

Hang on - lots say not to use Fabcon as it blocks their pores and they don't wick ?

Hi All

I would have to agree with cougie on this. Fabric Conditioner inhibits the wicking proporties of the fabrics.

I was mine on 40 deg with non-bio powder and NO fabric conditioner and have no peoblems.

Michael, can you go over to General and get a pic of yourself running made up into a RW cover. I think some of the ladies on the thread may like a closer look.

I wondered why wicky was whiffy!

Try spraying them with that Persil Refresh thing - I do this on jackets when I've been in smoky places, and it works quite well.
Or just wear them when you are running fasty and not notice the smell ? ;-)

have used wicking tops for many years and generally I have to say they can get smelly, but more recent fabrics are not as bad as older or cheaper ones. I have some old Lowe DriFlo ones which hing, but newer Odlo ones which don't. Helly's are renowned stinkies as Sub says.

Hi Helen T

Sorry I don't have any pics of me running. I am only running 8 months and have not as yet entered any races.

If I manage to get a pic of me in running gear I will send it in but I don't think it will be much to look at.

Happy running,

MK

Hi Helen

I did pop over to the TRFKARR thread and had a look at the covers. They look fantastic, respect to TRFKARR.

Not sure I would qualify as potential totty as I live across the pond. Just your average 40yr old who took up running to lose and maintain weight and improve fitness 8 months ago and got hooked :) Have been lukring for quite a while learning from the advice you guys post :)

I have found a running club near me and I am trying to pluck up the courage to join so I can get some structure to my training. Maybe then I will enter some races.

Good look with your race if you run. I will look out for your cover.

Hmmm, HelenT have to agree with your earlier comments re MK on the cover of RW. For purely artistic reasons of course.......

Of course, Smitch!

Do you mean pond as in the USA Michael?

No pond as in Ireland, practically neighbours :)

As regards washing of running kit, I can recommend - Husbands. My other half does all the washing and ironing in return for me doing the shopping and (hopefully gourmet and low-fat) cooking. Hence, after a 40 degree wash with Comfort-Easy-Iron, my kit is sweet-smelling and fresh --- or maybe my friends are too polite to mention...

Gosh, possibly an accent too - it just gets better and better!!

Wherabouts Michael?

Me and husb are off to Eire for Easter. My barmy mother moved there 10 years ago, and no, she's not irish! (just barmy)

Last summer was my first hol there as a runner. It's the only time I've ever experienced pure air on a run! The local farmers all seemed to think I was mental though.

Hi Helen

I live in Dublin, 'bout 30 mins from the Aer port. Air is about 50%-60% pure :) not too bad.

Where abouts in Ireland will you be staying?

You must have stayed somewhere outside the pale (Dublin)last year if you encountered farmers. They wouldn't be use to the sight of people in shorts and T shirts running for no apparent reason ;)

Hope you guys have a good trip and the weather stays fine so you can get some runs in. Weather is just perfect at the mo for running.

Malin Head, Michael. Just about as back of beyond as you can get without venturing into the Gaeltacht (spellin?).

Very scenic, very quiet, drives me mad after a week: can't cope with the pace of life, sllllloooooowwww!
