Winter clothing on a budget

My first post so bear with me........I play football and mountain bike once a week and would like to do a few runs in between to further improve fitness and socialise with my wife.

So....I want to get myself some reasonable winter leggings and a jacket to keep me warm and give me no excuses not to go out on a damp and cold evening. What can you recommend me on a budget of around £75 for both? Any bargains out there?

Thanks Nick

all my best gear is off e-bay, bought from people who obviously planned to do a bit more exercise than they ended up really doing. Don't think I've ever spent more than £15 on anything.

Unlikely you will need a jacket IMO you will get too warm

Layers, layers and more layers should you require

Aldi or Lidl do some good VFM kit as and when
I have some More Mile kit, cant complain at that
Craft also - good make
Some of the high st sports shops will have kit in at a discount price

Get a good buff or a hat, pair of gloves, tights if the mercury drops

Some of the stuff they have at Decathlon is ideal. I bought a ski base layer for a fiver and it's just the job!

Absolute bargain for a quality jacket. Weighs bugger all has its own little carry bag and keeps you dry and protected from the rain.

Plus Discount code ACX1510 gives you 15% before end November.

If you have a budget of 75 quid this is a total bargain.

Have a look at Aldi/Lidl and Sportsdirect. You can pick up a pair of tights and jacket for under 40 GBP.

@Keggi - for the montane jacket - is it actually waterproof or is it more showerproof?

I don't bother with tights. I do wear a jacket in winter though.
Aldi and lidl kit will be fine and well inside your budget.

sports direct is about the cheapest

The featherlight is windpoof/showerproof. If you're not a present RW subscriber, go leaf through the mag in the shops and note down the code to get one free with a 6-month subscription for £16, I think it was! I'd be very tempted but I have two already so a third seems unnecessary.

The waterproof one is the Montane Minimus.

Hi Debra, is that the Montane featherlight on subscription offer for £16? If that's the case, thats an offer I couldn't refuse! Thanks, Nick

I have the Montane Featherlite and it's practically useless. Very light and a nice little carry pouch but was as useful as a chocolate fireguard when I got drenched and cold in a run

Will also keep my eye out for Craft Aldi jacket on ebay then - I'm medium if anyone has one for sale

Leggings wise, anyone got the Runbreeze leggings that can pass judgement? Thanks.

Aldi, Lidl and eBay for me.

Thanks to Debra, I took up the £16 subscription offer to get the free Montane Marathon Featherlite jacket - also gone for the RubBreeze mens leggings which I found for £15.50 so £31.50 in total

Sports Direct for cheap Karrimor kit if you've got one nearby. Start Fitness is always good for cheap kit too, do most of my shopping there as I'm based near Newcastle so I can pop in.
