vritually everything I've read about distance running says "don't run in brand new kit" cos it'll chafe etc. But when watching elites on tv they always seem immaculately turned out in new vests n shorts n stuff like that provided by their loving sponsors.

So is this all brand new? Do they get chafed?

they're never running for long enough to get chafed

To be honest I've found that the better the kit the less chaffing you get anyway. e.g. cotton really gives me chafed nipples but proper wicking tops don't. Maybe their kit is so good that chaffing isn't an issue

surely they always wear the same brand and style and just have different things printed or sewn on?

Generally speaking, I always race in brand new gear, because I have to keep up appearances and can't be seen running in a vest that was fashionable *last* month.

For training purposes, I insist on freshly-laundered vests and shorts. Make sure your valet uses a cool iron on wicking fabrics.

Haile.
