recently after my runs ive been feeling low on sugar and have been drinking a can of coca cola as part of my recovery to compensate for this. I was just wondering if this was a good or a bad thing? any thought would be much apreciated, thanx

Bad for your teeth, but a perfectly reasonable form in which to take sugar

It is not necessary to let it go flat, whatever anyone might suggest.

Apart from the teeth, quite good actually. Some GPs recommend for kids with D&V and say it is as good as "proper" electrolyte replacement drinks.

I'd choose choc milk over coke for a recovery drink post-run. Carbs, protein, calcium in one hit. And kinder on the tooth enamel. Full sugar coke's the biz for upset tums / hangovers though!

Coca cola is absolutely loaded with suger but then again so are most sports drinks so if you're low on sugar go for it.

Personally I go for haribo star mix when I need a sugar fix.

Quite partial to a coke occasionally when I feel like it - but I wouldnt have it as part of a regular recovery aid.

I think it's quite bad for you - it cleans coins, so think what it does to your insides, but every once in a while can't hurt.  I, however, am in the chocolate milkshake school of thought meself.  Particularly the Mars one - yummy!

it does a good job of cleaning motor engines and toilet bowls too.

I hadn't tried cleaning anything with it......how about descaling kettles and getting the burnt bits of saucepans, any good for that?

Not sure about saucepans but chuck it in your toilet overnight and you're sorted!

Does it work out cheaper than bleach?!

i was wondering that as I've run out of toilet cleaner! It might look a bit odd though?

IS full fat coke a better cleaning agent than diet coke?

Paul - not so sure coca cola is good for a recovery drink, but it sure helps to get you to the end of a marathon. Took diluted coke with water in the last part of my marathon a few weeks ago and it certainly did the trick!

Seems very popular with americans - they kick up quite a fuss if its not there for them after races, so I've heard.

not sure on that one foxy lady - diet drinks are supposedly worse for your teeth though so perhaps. try putting an equally dirty coin in a glass of each and compare?

gastric fluids are very acidic, so i wouldnt worry about coke dissolving your insides, i'd stick to worrying about your teeth. i enjoy a can of coke now and then...maybe just avoid drinking lots and lots of it

I don't know about cleaning, but diet coke is much better for coke rockets.

However, not so good for this

Oh my, Bear.  That's quite comic, although I can imagine uncomfortable if you ever gave it a go...
