I've currently got a bit of sniffle and a strange sinusey feeling in my head. it's not a proper headache but it feels really uncomfortable  at the top of my nose and forehead. I also feel a bit under the weather in a non-specific way.

Could it be hayfever? I've never suffered it before.

If it is could someone please give me some tips on how to lessen its effect on my running.

I'm going to running club tonight to see how I get on.

 Cheers,

Anne

It does sound a bit like hayfeaver - I think you can suddenly start getting it even if you've never suffered before.

I've never had it myself so can't really give any tips other than anti-histamines (which I think can work for some and not for others - Depends on the type of pollen you're allergic to I think).

Thanks Julie.

As it's my first day feeling like this i guess I'll see how I feel tomorrow and then maybe pop to the chemists for advice from the pharmacist.

I'm hoping it's not a cold OR hayfever...

I've thought I've had a cold for ages. It took tonights lovely run (pertty park in flower) to make me think it's hayfever, snot and lots of it!  Yuck!

Cetirizine(drowsy) and loratadine(non drowsy) tablets are good but when it's very bad I also use fexofenadine which is a spary type thing. There are a few histamine antagonists on the market, if one doesn't work there will be another to try, but popping to the chemists is the best idea. Give them a good old cross question. I hope you feel better soon.

Honey?   ooooh - I love honey.

I thought you had to eat all winter so you get used to the local pollen?

I really don't think honey would touch my hayfever, its really very bad.

I've got some pollen tablets from the homeopath- too early to give a verdict but come with good reviews. Last year I was preg so couldn't take anti-hists & I got some cream (like salve) from boots which you rub around your nose to catch the pollen as you inhale. Worked a bit.

Anne... I started with hayfever in my late-forties. Mostly I suffer from tree pollen which is abundant now.  I have the runny-nose/stuffed up feeling/itchy eyes.

Try this...   Nasaleze Natural Nasal Spray . Available over the counter at £6.95 I think. It is a natural product that I find helps when things get really bad. It is a powdery spray that lines the nostrals and catches the pollen.

Good luck with whatever you decide to try.

I've bought some hayfever tablets and will give them a go.

I can't believe I've started to get allergic reactions in the lead up to my naughy forties...

Anne,

I have this sinus pain thing going on in my head too! All across the top of my skull & down the front of my face. Drugs aren't touching it! Think its a cold! I had a phlegmy chesty cough at the weekend & sore throat last week! Im dosing on Vit c & it seems to be getting better.

I have started my hayfever drugs this weekend as well though as Ive started to get itchy eyes, nose, mouth & that place right inside your skull, that only sucking the roof of your mouth will cure!

Seems to be working abit too as I managed to walk the dogs at lunch without my nose watering like a tap! The joys of pollen!!

5 days after posting my original email I came down with a stinker of a cold and since it cleared up I've not suffered any more 'hayfever' symptoms. So I'm hoping it was juts a cold that took a long time to manifest itself.

I got so many swine flu (we call it piggy flu )jokes from my friends whilst I was suffering it helped cheer me up.

My favourite was the suggestion to use some oinkment!

Thanks for all the advice.
