Just a quick thread for anyone who can be bothered to give out useful advice. I love running and playing footy and I just wondered which types of running training best complement both activities- are endurance or speed sessions more useful or is it simply a case of adding variety to training?

I wish I`d have done some distance running when I played football, it would definatly helped me.
Speedwork will aid with explosive sprints ie 5x 100 meters with short(30sec)recovery between each rep.

Short intervals (200s) and hill reps will help both. Footy is a very useful addition to normal road running but in the end if you want to be very successful in one or the other you will need to specialise more.
