Forum spam update

Hi all,

First things first – hello! It’s my second week as Web Editor here so I thought I’d introduce myself here on the forum. I know some of you have been wondering what’s been going on behind the scenes on the site as we've had a few team changes over the summer months.

In other news, a third-party anti-spam service has just been implemented which should reduce the number of spam posts that you see on the website. This went live yesterday - 2 October - which means you should see far less spam on the forum.

Thank you VERY much for your patience on this matter – we know it’s been a frustrating few months. The new service should resolve the vast majority of the problems and our developers are continuing to monitor the spam levels. As ever, keep your forum alerts coming in if you do spot any spam and we’ll do our best to delete it and block the offending member as quickly as possible.

The USA RW have managed to get rid of this problem and they had worse spam, I mean really vomit worthy pictures.

But wombles, it's a good move for you to get released from having to do it for them. I really do think they're trying...

Hi Katie Good luck with your start and if I can offer a suggestion to RW towers - perhaps a nice "thank you" gift/gesture to the Spam Wombles who have given up a lot of their free time to keep this forum spam free.

Emmy_H, yes of course, that was the plan. I'll email all the mods separately.

Liverbird - which email account did you send your emails to? Might be easier to resend as we've had team changes over the past few months. Send to editor@runnersworld.co.uk and put FAO Katie so I know it's to do with this thread.

I'll keep you updated on the spam filter changes. I know not all are being caught, but it should catch the vast majority.

could someone at RW Towers please kill the spammer that's appeared in Gear promoting running buggies - he's like a rash at the mo on there and a few other sections
