What do you think...?

Is it better to take on fuel such as gels, sports drinks, jelly babies or whatever, on long runs > 15 miles, so your body copes better with the endurance and recovers better etc; or is it better to not fuel so that the body becomes more efficient at using carbs/fats for energy which will help when it comes to running a marathon?

I always take sports drinks, jelly babies, gels, etc on long runs otherwise I would run out of energy.  I also use the sweets as a "treat" when I've reached a certain point on my run - all about mind games!
