how do you handle it?

If you mean teenagers, get over it.  It's going to happen.

If you mean ten-year-olds, you're in the wrong race!

this kid was under 12 anyway. sub 20 5k. he looked a bit like my nephew in disguise

superb wee runner. I totally thought he would fade at the end but he didn't. gave him a congratulatory tap on the arm

I got taken down by a 12 year old in a track 3 k this last month ( and a couple of 15 year olds ) but he ran sub 11 minutes, others even faster. I think great and I hope they keep it up, wish I'd started running earlier - still managed 11:02 - not bad for 45 (not brill though but I hate short distance!)

Probably best to convince yourself that they're a future Olympic champion.

The only person I would be confident of beating in a race is Fauja Singh so I'm used to it

i think i'd beat Mr Overall

generally fit adult guys would expect to beat kids.

But take a look at some of the county records for U13 100metres!

sheash.

That's a good point.  Pick your distance!

I overheard the guys down the track talking about a session where they opined the horror of being beaten by a group of teenage girls.

Sorry!, what was that! beaten by teenage girls, bring em on.

2nd glass of wine has hit the spot.

Is that 5k times Phil?
Not that kind of beating Ric

Of course they aren't 5k times

In my years of kickboxing competition I was regularly beaten by kids including one 14yo who bust my mouth open.

I'm not proud.

11.58 for 5k?

That'd be tasty 14 years ago

i think that's why i am moving towards ultras. it's the only sport in the world apart from maybe bowls where it's not a young person's game.

What distance then? I thought a bit slow for 3K as they would have been 15

I'm guessing XC - says surrey league so sounds like it might be

19/12/2012 at 22:15
It's the Surrey League cross country, so whatever the juniors run but it won't be an accurate distance anyway.

I think it was after that race that Scott Overall decided maybe the marathon was for him, no point sticking to the short stuff.

The trickin being faster than children  is to race even younger kids. I have ran with the 4 year old grandson and I know I could probably have taken him any time I wanted. In 2 years we will probably be equal and, after that I will be eating his dust so it will be time to race his younger sister instead. I have just got to wait till she starts walking.
