Details of The Great West Run 2013 have now been released.  The new date is October 13th 2013 and there will be a new course to be announced shortly which takes one lap of the city centre.  Entries are now open at http://www.thegreatwestrun.co.uk/

Hi exiled claret - Sorry you feel that way, we are planning a great event, and the reality is to put on a well organised large event involves closing roads, traffic management and medical cover which all incur ever increasing costs. 

We have a new route to announce shortly through the city centre, which hopefully will persuade you to get involved! Many thanks for your feedback.

Personally I'm after a well organised event, with an accurately measured course, well marshalled, interesting views are a bonus, and a reasonable price tag. I'm not saying that you don't deliver on the first 4 Amy, but I managed to get all 5 at the Sturminster Half for £14 (including my extra £2 for entering on the day).

I understand that costs are higher for larger city events, but it is also interesting to note that the Stur Half was organised by a local running club, and was not run by a company looking to make a profit.
