August 1st is commemorated as `Yorkshire Day', where all inhabitants and ex-pats from the White Rose county celebrate all things Yorkshire.

So raise a glass of Theakston's and celebrate the lives of such people as...

Harold Wilson
Fred Trueman
Robin Hood
Capt. James Cook
Michael Parkinson
Richard Whitelely
David Batty
The Housemartins
Sean Bean

The list is endless...

And take the Declaration of Integrity (I'm not making this up!!)

The Yorkshire Declaration of Integrity

"I, (your name), being a resident of
the [West/North/East] Riding of Yorkshire [or City of York] declare;

that Yorkshire is three Ridings and the City of York, with these Boundaries of 1124 years standing;
that the address of all places in these Ridings is Yorkshire;
that all persons born therein or resident therein and loyal to the Ridings are Yorkshire-men and women;
that any person or corporate body which deliberately ignores or denies the aforementioned shall forfeit all claim to Yorkshire status.
These declarations made this Yorkshire Day 2001.
God Save the Queen!"

Well, drop the save the Queen bit:-)

My girlfriend is from Hull and supports the Tigers. My quest for Yorkshireness continues unabated.

Anybody doing the Elloughton 10k on Sunday?

Not forgetting the three Yorkshiremen in Monty Python, either....

This Cornishman wishes you all a Happy Tykes Day :-)
01/08/2005 at 11:53
And also not forgetting Mr Andrew Windsor, aka Andrew Gotha-Saxe-Coburg, aka Duke of York :-))

There is only one decent thing to come out of Yorkshire..........

The M62 into Lanacashire !
(Had to be the Yorkies who needed to invent a day to celebrate being born there)

It's not to celebrate being born in Yorkshire, but to commemorate the unending nature of the Ridings, even though the Heath-Walker Local Government Reorganistion of 1974 tried to legislate them out of existence.

Ah, so is Hull in East Yorkshire or is it in North Humberside?
01/08/2005 at 15:33
Who cares ?
01/08/2005 at 15:40
I'm from Beverley, would you believe.
01/08/2005 at 15:42
My best mate went to Beverley Grammer !
01/08/2005 at 15:45
Actually, quite a few people care!
01/08/2005 at 15:58
bet they don't !
01/08/2005 at 17:13
Le Fee Verte would add that Hull is definitely in East Yorkshire with North Humberside now defunct.
01/08/2005 at 17:54

So would I :)

Says East Yorkshire on my birth certificate so how can Hull be anywhere else?

Happy Yorkshire Day to us . .

Type 'Hull North Humberside' into Google or Yahoo or any of the other search engines and you'll find out exactly which companies give their addresses as 'Hull, North Humberside'!
01/08/2005 at 18:21
North Humberside never existed outside the minds of crazed bureaucrats.

Companies like that are why people need to take the pledge in the 2nd post!

Jon, never knew your mother was called Beverley.
