And yes I think Jesus Freaks is offensive. We just call them the god squad in our house.

Back in April, i thought that the guy running the VLM in a red tracksuit, white wig, sunglasses and holding a cigar was doing a pretty cool tribute to Savile.

Not sure what that chap will be thinking at the moment - perhaps, stick with cartoon characters next year ?

He's running as Michael Jackson next year.

Will he be blowing bubbles as he runs ?

10/10/2012 at 13:17

I'm doing the VLM as Pete Townsend... I'll put in my credit card details but I won't enter...

Sorry I hasten to add I'm a total believer in Pete T's complete innocence, I jus couldn't miss a gag.

TroyD - why do you believe he was innocent when Pete himself accepted the police caution and thus his guilt. The caution was for accessing a child pornography site, and the police accepted that he hadn't downloaded any material but that accessing the site for research purposes was still a crime.

he stated on radio 4 yesterday that the police acknowledged that although he had put his credit card detauils in he had not tried to access the site/ pictures in any way/.......

if that is true I might believe his version that he was just trying to prove how the banks are encouraging the child prn industry...

but listening to him I can not decide.something about the way he talks about it makes me still very suspicious of him

What ever happened to the book he was doing the " research" for?

he decided in the end not to do that one and wrote a drugs sex and rock and rioll one...........apparantley through some kind of rainbow theraphy he has discovered that he was abused when younger

It was some time ago when PT did this and was not as wise as he and us all are now about what can and can't be done. I suppose it would make sense that if you want to write about something you need to know what you are writing about. Otherwise you become like Mary Whitehouse being opposed to "filth" that she had never even watched.

Having looked into his case more deeply than a headline in the Sun, from interviews with him where he quite candidly explains himself, I stand by him as a straight up guy and refuse to join the red top reading masses of would be lynch mobbers.

He admitted he had entered his details into the site, but he also immediately exited and tried to cancel whatever it was he had entered his details for. He accepted the police caution because he knew that taking it to court and having it dtagged out and so on would have destoryed him personally. He also accepted it was a huge and regrettable mistake to research in the way he did.

But when it comes to a joke I believe that anyone and everything's fair game.

When I was younger I remember a DVD doing the rounds with people having sex with animals. As far as i know none of those people(who watched it) have had sex with or have any interest in having sex with animals. Point is, that you more you make something taboo, the more people want to see what the fuss is about. A bit like Kate's tits. You have to look at the pics but then you just go ho hum!

Just because you believe someone should be considered innocent until proven guilty doesn't mean that it was wrong to think that when the evidence mounts up against them. I still believe Stevie G was right to think that at the time.
JS is dead now but what should be looked into is the culture that allowed his behaviour to go on. People who behaved badly during those times will be shitting themselves now. A certain hamster eating comedian being just one of them. Of course he is innocent until proven guilty too.

Not for the first time you have it pretty spot on old son.

Silly me for thinking innocent until proven guilty eh, should probbaly think the worst of people to start with!

My attitude was exactly the same as Stevie's. I defended Saville against what I thought might be this country's gutter press and people who were out for whatever they could get after his death.

More fool me.

What a disgusting 'man'. At least some of those who covered for him might now get their comeuppance. Hope it's not just the little guys as usual.

I think the BBC's in trouble. makes Sky look like a guardian of the truth.

What do you think he was guilty of?

I listened to the interview and I thought that, over the years, he has has been consistent about what happened. If this were a Jimmy Saville situation and there were more than one incident then it would be different. But there wasnt porn on his computers and that is consistent with him saying that he didnt download images.

"All thanks to the unique way the BBC is funded"  as they keep telling us in their info-mercials
