Unreal - he headed up a taskforce into Broadmoor - he had his own set of keys to the place and was free to come and go as he pleased - he was a DJ and kids TV presenter ffs what was going on !    The whole thing is not only tragic it's bizarre - did he have some kind of Derren Brown type power of suggestion - I mean if you were appointing a task force for a high security mental hospital the shortlist wouldn't be Savile, Brian Cant and Geoffrey from Rainbow would it.   

I haven't read this thread. I think it's a pity all these complainers didn't come forward while he was alive to defend himself, when clearly they could have done. I suspect some of them, at least, will be fabricating claims in the hope of getting damages from his estate, or from the BBC/NHS by arguing vicarious liability.

I also find it unsatisfactory that the powers-that-be take it on themselves to throw millions and millions of pounds of public money at public enquiry after public enquiry. The people who want truth to come out aren't told to pay for the investigation themselves, it's always the taxpaying public who have to pick up the bill.

I also think that some claims will be true and some false...

What can I say, he might had done a lot for for charity but it was no doubt a front for the recent revelations. A childhood hero of mine no more. Pity he is not around to spend his twilight years rotting away in jail.......

The Jimmy Saville story just keeps growing. Apparently people are now saying that Jeremy Beadle had a small hand in it..... 

I'm not sure quite how useful an enquiry will be. 

How many decades will it go back ? I struggle with what I did last week - so asking people to look back 30 or 40 years is a bit much ? And the cost of it ?

Surely the lesson to be learned is that if someone seems a bit creepy - they possibly are. Keep an eye on them. (That'll be a million pounds please)

And don't let any DJ have the keys to a High Security Prison. Although he would have made for a cracking Batman Villain I guess.

This is of course irrelevant compared to the other allegations, but I'd like to ask you running experts if he ever really ran a marathon, or it was another aspect to his self aggrandising.

I've heard plenty of rumours that he would be given a lift to the finish (those rumours were well before he turned his toes up).

His wikipedia page says he ran the london marathon in 2005, but there's no record of him on the finishers list that I looked at.

Perhaps it would give an insight if we could somehow find evidence of marathons that he actually completed. He claimed hundreds so there must be evidence of them somewhere?

and if you scroll through the various items in his memorabilia auction after you died, there were all sorts of medals and certificates - more 1/2 than full marathons - that were sold.  whether he actually ran the whole way however, is another story

i think the bigger question, after another day of fresh allegations, new victims coming out with stories etc, was how did he have time to run at all with all this ill behaviour going on!

This confirms that he didn't run the race in 2005 at all, he was driven in a lead vehicle.

On BBC Radio Ulster this morning, the co-presenter Karen Patterson:

" . . . . and here's an alternative take on the Jimmy Saville scandal from one of our listeners, who texts: I don't know what all the fuss is about, he was a lovely man - when I was 8 years old, Jim fixed it for me to milk a cow, blindfolded".

I kid you not, she actually read it out and then she and her fellow presenter commented on what a strange message it was! An apology was then aired 20 minutes later!!

Has made me laugh all day . . .  as I get through the last hours of my taper madness ahead of the Dublin Marathon.

I might have to use that one!
