London Marathon Sponsorship

I really didn't know where to post this so I guess general will do 

Ok,, So I applied for the VLM on the entry day but little did I think of it. ( My first ever thought of applying for it) Last week I received my " congratulations " pack! I couldn't believe it! First time apply first time in. This has lead me to feel bad for the people who have tried years and years over so please don't think I am gloating.

Basically I was accepted through the public ballot and not the charity. Since receiving my pack and reading through a few times I have decided that I would like to run for Cancer research Bobby Moore Fund. I have a massive passion for football so what better way to raise money for Cancer Reasearch to right? 2 birds 1 stone sort of thing!

Anyway... I have decided that I am going to pester big sports names/clubs for sponsorships.. My list consists of previous clubs that Bobby played for and some fo his old friends and sports stars/clubs such as...

• David Seamen
• Gary Linekar
• Harry Redknap
• West Ham F.C
• The F.A
• Geoff Hurst

The list goes on.. I was wondering if anyone else has had any luck fund raising from such names?

I would be very amazed if the names you mention will offer you any sponsorship but good luck for trying!

Thats what I thought, but it will never hurt to try .. Had a reply back from Manchester United, they are willing to contribute! 

My dad sat next to Gary Lineker for lunch at the Oval, and said he was a jolly nice bloke.  So you never know.

Try contacting your local papers and radio stations they may put a small piece in for you and raise the profile of what your doing, good effort and good luck

Yeah ive got his previous clubs.. all be it not many english ones.. but hopefully il get somewhere!! ill keep updates coming

Wow! Great start! If you don't ask you definitely won't get, so might as well ask as many people/organisations as possible. Some folk definitely have a knack for extracting money and/or pledges of assistance for their causes, maybe you'll turn out to be one of these persuasive people.

I'd say you stand a much better chance of success if you can explain why you chose the charity you did, and what you see as the connection between the person/organisation you're asking for money and your chosen charity.

Yes.. runs-with-dogs, I have chosen the people who are associated with the charity and have ran for the charity before. I have just sent out my e-mials to Gary Linekars agent and also to david seamans. All having close ties to Bobby Moore himself!
