mid-foot strike ..fore foot strike

Hi 

Silly a this will sound put when doing mid-foot strike ..fore foot strike does your heel not touch the ground at all.

well it doesnt 'have' to if your being pedantic, but it is advised, otherwise u are putting a large strain on your calves as they are not allowed to rest.

There was nothing pedantic about my reply, merely asking why you think your heel "should" or is "advised" to touch the ground, and under whose authority? My heels don't touch the ground, but I feel no more strain in my calves than any other part of my legs. You don't just run on your calves because you're on your toes, you're still using the whole leg.

As Nick say, just run.

I don't really understand this - does it just happen?  I mean the heel hitting just after the midfoot.  I was thinking about this whilst running today and I don't think I could do it deliberatly - not unless I ran in slow motion.

well my motto is take everything said about this area of running with a pinch of salt. I meant no offense to anyone.

All I would say is Im a midfoot striker but i dont think about technique I just run naturally, I know my heel kisses the ground as my foot flexes.

im guessing the OP is thinking about changing from heel striking to midfoot??

So how do you know you're doing it 'right'? Do you just run on the balls of your feet and the rest of it sorts itself out?
