Hope you all had a brilliant Christmas and Father Christmas was kind.

With 2013 just around the corner, we're interested to hear your new year's resolutions (running / triathlon / sport-related ones, naturally).

Mine = do more cross training and be less of a wuss when it comes to open-water swimming (new mantra: there are no sharks in the UK, Katie. Please don't tell me otherwise!)

Any targets involving distances or times are unrealistic nowadays. 2012's resolution was to complete 60 races in the year I turned 60. This years is to go for races which I would normally rule out as not suitable for me. One is the national xcountry championship where I stand a realistic chance of coming last on the grounds that, in order to come last, you have got to be there.

There are some but they won't harm you You're more likely to be harmed by friendly dolphins than Sharks!

My goals are:

  • Sub 4.30 in Paris in April
  • Run a marathon in at least 5 different countries (currently at: UK, France, Germany, Belgium... need one more to make up the lot)
  • Try to make more quality times for my runs and not just run the distance but enjoy it
  • Try to find a cure for dog allergies as I really want one

3.10 at London marafun and to start a UK off-shore killer shark breeding programme.

I think i found your power of 10 page...(soft C and a middle initial R?), but it doesn't always tell the full story, and you only have a few years of times on there.

Just interested, how does a 3.10 compare with your pb?

swim twice a week for the next 4 months

Sounds a big, but potentially doable aim for the marathon then if you haven't done many marathons, and if you don't lose much over distance...but if ever there's a distance you can smash a massive wodge off it's that one.

I think I'll stick with the more casual yearly aim of pb at the 5 distances I race at for 2013.

Only  3/5 this year, unless we can count getting a 10k pb within a 10miler, which we probably can't.

So 3/5 only

It is hard to enjoy the actual racing bit during. It's more the feeling after, and the achievement I think.

I've signed up for the Milton Keynes Marathon and I'd like to complete it much faster than I did the Budapest Marathon this year. In practical terms, the closer I can get to the 4 hour mark, the happier I will be.

This year aim is to become a more efficient swimmer, can only help with my running and this year I will attempt my first triathlon! I too would like to get closer to 4 hours for a marathon too!

I'm allergic to dogs and I have 2 a lab cross and a greyhound, you kinda build up immunity to your own, just watch what breed you go for!

I'd just like to get back into training after a very long break - if I do then I'd like to set a new 5k PB (currently 22 dead at Richmond Park parkrun).

Early this year I decided to restructure my exercise regime as alternating running and rowing machine days. The rowing is a good non-impact workout on non-running days. Three of each in a week and one day off.

So no explicit resolution as such, just a wish to continue my current routine because it is working so far - I'm injury free and running well.

And also to enter one (medal-bearing) race a month on average throughout 2013.

i resolve to stop eating peanut butter straight from the jar with my fingers.

especially when it's not my peanut butter.
