Nicest Medals

I know there's a monthly thread on whether or not medals are neccersery,

but if we consider that this is a thread for those of us who do like medals, which running events have given the nicest medals?

I don't have a great deal of medals to compare, but I like my Wycombe Half, and Silverstone Half ones.

What medals of note are there?

I'm not in favour of having medals no matter what - mostly they are cheap rubbish 

Of the medals that I have kept (very few), the Amsterdam half marathon is pretty good - shaped like the running track at the Olympic stadium (where it finishes), and not too big.  

Many races seem to think bigger is better (eg. London Marathon).

I've also kept a few from French races.   The best British medal I've had was for the Burnham Beeches half a few years ago.

Brighton Marathon have been nice so far - different every year. And very nice ribbon as well.... if you like that sort of thing

Best I've ever had is a hand made ceramic medal for the west witton fell race, with a ribbon made of a single strand of wool, really personal...the medal for those in the first three were painted black.

The Gosport half about 5 years ago was ace, very chunky.

I believe the ones from the Olympics are quite highly valued.

I liked the Edinburgh Rock and Roll Half medal. I ain't gettin' in no airplane sucker!

I do like that medal. Where's Muttley when you need him, that will make him green. (unless he has one).

The Alf Shrubb Memorial has a really nice medal, and no it's not big, it's the smallest medal I have. It's a replica of a medal he won some when back.

That is a nice gong indeed, T.Mouse. I like.

My personal fave is the Indian Queens half marathon. Rectangular, heavy and in the colours of the flag of St Piran.

Mine is from 2008. Must get down there to do that one again.

Here's my favourite from this year:

 It's massive and weighs a ton. Looks great hanging on my wall.

Edit: I didn't actually have to run 50 miles to get it. Race was laps of a 10 mile loop and as it was for charity rather than an official race, every participant got the same medal. I ran 20 which does make me feel a bit of a fraud. May have to get '20' engraved on it somewhere...

The Great Scottish Run's medal this year was a welcome change of design. I've done it for the last 10 years and have 10 medals that are identical apart from the year marked on them. Ditto the Women's 10K - all the bloody same looking!

This year I got identical medals from a 40 mile ultra and a new marathon. I don't mind that too much but prefer the original ones. Most interesting medal yet was a wooden one with the logo burned into it, for the D33 ultra in Aberdeen.
