Pleased with this weeks running. 2 key workouts were 3 x 2 mile intervals at MP with half mile recoveries at LSR pace. Met TommyG on towpath - great spot for intervals. Myself, GlennMcK, JimMcC and a fella from Co Antrim Harriers were all able to run to towpath, do our individual sessions and run back to city centre. Took today off and did 18 miler with 13.5-18 progressive towards MP. Feet up and a nice wee 6 miler on Sunday to round things off.

Kenny, how's your crew progressing towards Larne.

HMM they are all doing better than me. I will probably get some of them to go with your pacing group so they don't get carried away and go off too fast.

I am planning on trying 14 on Sunday but I start to struggle once I get to about 8 so will have to wait and see how it goes.

You did look like a man who was doing an interval session HMM...

That was my first one of the year. 8 x 3 minutes at just over 5:30 pace with 90 seconds recovery and I have to say I was busted. MIght slow down next week!

I work at the end of the towpath now so very handy for me and there's plenty about to meet up with for runs.

Lol TG was that Jonny from Up and Running - is into triathlons?

Kenny tell them I'll have the Jellybeans ready

No HMM - it was Matt who I'm not sure you'd know. Runs for willowfield. Was a flier a few years ago but injuries and sprogs have slowed him down a bit to be as slow as me.

Cracking day for a run , headed down to the towpath , Cutters out to Lisburn and back or as I now like to call it "The Alwyn mcKee 20 somethingish miler"
On the subject of distance and time , my ??9.99 Lego watch with built in stopwatch isn't quite cutting it ,can anyone advise me on a good watch to get bearing in mind I'm a 42 year old technophobe ,so slightly more than a sundial but not something I'm going to have to ask a grown up to fix for me

Well done Martin. Is it a GPS watch your looking for.

13 miles done this morning it was tough going but pleasing to be able to pick up the pace over the last couple of miles.

03/03/2013 at 21:10
Well done Kenny , Larnes firmly in your sights now.
Excuse my ignorance but I want a watch that maps my distance and can give me a per mile breakdown I take it that's a GPS , you can see why I need help Kenny
03/03/2013 at 21:28

Good man Kenny - fast finish too... and there was you stressing about HM distance.

Well done Martin - 2nd 20mlr in the bag! I ran 14 this morning with Mo McKee - nice running weather alright.

Funny enough we were just discussing watches on the run this morning and agreed that the GPS watch is a great bit of kit for running.... Alwyn finds it motivational & I find it great for just running with no particular route in mind but being being able to make it upp as you go along whilst keeping an eye on distance.
Dozens to choose from and at our level dont think you will go far wrong with any of them. I have the Garmin 305 Forerunner basically because its well priced, been around for a while so is tried, tested & reliable & has a big screen so easy to read on the run. Downside is that it is a little bulky.
Thinking about it I don't know what I'd do without one ..... get the wallet dusted down Martin and get those white fivers out

21.5 mile on saturday morning lovely day for it , training comin on for belfast and derry marathons .

03/03/2013 at 22:22
Good lad Gregory that's great mileage, keep it up
03/03/2013 at 22:26

thanks martin hard to get the training right for marathons as all my other times for distance say i should be doing better at the marathon .

03/03/2013 at 22:36
Martin plenty of online emporiums or if you would prefer to support local business I suppose up&running or podium4sport in Belshaft would stock them.

Think I got mine from an eBay shop from memory...

Gregory nice long run - that's the draw of the marathon distance.. It's a whole different animal if you haven't done the specific training. Halfs you can get away with pushing thru the last 3 miles if wheels come of the wagon. If the same happens at 16/18 miles of a marathon it's a long slow haul home!
