Gregory, Ricky is right don't panic about time getting those big miles in and getting used to them is the most important your other training will help with your fitness, I see like myself you have ticked the idiot box and are doing the 4 week marathon turnaround
03/03/2013 at 22:48

yip kinda jumped into it thinking that wouldnt need any training as belfast would be enough for both  hope im right

Successfully completes the Belfast to lisburn tow path yesterday. Can't say i was that keen on the route. It was too flat, lol. Was a good day it thigh, with some other long runners from the club. Also, the lunch and white wine in cutters wharf was a great finish. If only ever long run finished like that.

TLH , good way to end a long run The towpath was packed yesterday though there is that part just past dunmurray when suddenly there's nobody and the next people you meet are coming from Lisburn ,that always makes me feel good

Ah you think nobody is there Martin... the bushes have eyes

Well I am considering doing Limerick on Sun 5th May as an alternative to Belfast & combine it with a weekend away in a nice hotel with the family.

It's a fairly new marathon - anybody know anything about it/heard any experiences of it? Looks a fairly flat route.

Just got an email from the 4:00 hr pacing team for Belfast saying they've organised an 18 mile training run for 24th ,day after Larne, ouch !!

Ricky , bit the bullet and ordered a Garmin 410 , seems to do everything I want without completely baffling me, we will see ! Can't help you with Limerick, good luck and thanks again for the watch advice.

Tough session alright Gregory....fair play to you - makes my treadmill interval session tonight look like a stroll in the park:
8 x 0.5ml @ 7.04 pace with 0.2ml recoveries @ 10 m/ml pace. Warm up of 0.25 ml at start with 0.5ml cool down at end.  Just over 6 miles in total.

05/03/2013 at 23:34

all sessions are tough ricky as long as we get plenty out of them its all good .

Martin cant go wrong with a garmin wouldnt be without one now .

06/03/2013 at 09:00

Tough session Gregory.

Sorry Martin can't help you about Limerick.

Hill session on Monday night with the beginners group I took it easy as I was still a bit tired after Sunday. 6 x 4 mins on 2 mins off last night. Lovely night for running cold but no wind.

Evening all, been lurking ere a while but this my first post an was hoping for some advice. I'm training for Belfast (1st mara) but I've never done a race before so last night signed up for dune half on 18 march.do you's think it b wise to race full pelt or take it a little easier? I'd like to find out just how fast I could do it under race conditions but don't want lose ?3/4 weeks training after.

RAY up and running just up from city hall in belfast will sort you out , first class shop and knowledgable staff .

06/03/2013 at 21:15

Sean king 4 give it a go shouldnt affect you for the marathon .

06/03/2013 at 21:36
Cheers Gregory.
06/03/2013 at 22:16

Sean - hello & welcome...... you should be fine to give it a good effort given that it's far enough out from Belfast. Try a mini taper next week... shorten your runs and do them at an easy pace and maybe take two days rest before the race so you are fresh and can give it your best.

Ray - would echo Gregory's comments re: Up & Running although have also heard Podium 4 Sport in Castlereagh are also good and will do gait analysis.

Winters not just away yet - 9 miler @ 8.22pace this evening: wet, windy & cold!
