Hi,
Just been thinking about the Olympics in 2012 and thought wouldn't it be great to be a torch carrier. Will the torch go around the UK ? I went to the Olympic 2012
site and it only mentions the Torch travelling through London. Hopefully, the torch will make it round to the rest of the uk....and will it only be ex-elite athletes or promising school athletes that get to carry the torch.

Maybe they could do a ballot like the flm. I hope it goes the full length of the country. I have already volunteered my services for 2012.

On seconds thoughts, best not. I get sick when I'm upside down.

Would it be wise to let you run carrying a naked flame?

i remember the sheffield student games, they gave that pug-ugly helen sharman woman the torch to carry on the grounds that she had been to space for no apparent reason and she was from sheffield, and she tripped up on the way up to the thing she was supposed to light and dropped the torch and it went out. oh how i laughed.

If you find out CJ let me know.

I had three ambitions
a) be a teacher (been there done that)
b) do a parachute jump (not brave enough yet)
c) carry the Olympic torch

i thought it went from the previous games site to the new games site. I dont think they normally send it around the rest of the country holding the olympics.

perhaps we could start a petition that ONLY RW forumites are allowed to carry the torch?

The Helen Sharman story has really cheered me up. I will be giggling all the way home on the bus now like some mad woman. Nothing quite as funny as people tripping up. I shouldnt laugh really.

When I lived in Calgary the Olympic torch was carried across Canada. Loads of "ordinary" folks got to carry it, along with a few celebs and sportsmen and women. I believe folks were chosen through a lottery system through some corporate sponsor.

Wouldn't be surprised if McDonalds or CocaCola hold a competition for "ordinary" folks to carry the torch.

The torch will have to travel from Beijing to London which is about 6000 miles. So the poor sod doing that leg of the torch carrying will have to get a move on to make it to London for 2012. At 10 miles every day it could be here for Dec 2010(Any takers ? It would be good training.)
Leaving plenty of time for it to go round Britain.

I thought that they lit the torch using the sun's rays on Mount Olympus.

CJ,

Apparently Coca-Cola and Samsung will be organising competitions to carry the torch.

Hope I don't have to drink that **** to enter!

If you really want to carry it, then surely all you need to do is loan a little bit of cash to the right political party?
