Ta for that xine, I'll have a look I'm not sure about the plank/push-up challenge, but I'll give it a go!

Reverse planks - I think I can manage about 10 seconds

In the past when I've worked at it I've managed 3mins. Side planks on the other hand I find much more difficult. Ironically it's my triceps that let me down rather than my core.

A much more demanding static exercise designed to strengthen glutes is this one:

Stand sideways against a wall. Lift the inner leg against the wall of the floor and bend the outer leg (relative to the wall) at the knee to mimic the return phase of the run cycle. Flex the outer leg by pushing your inner hip against the wall. Within a minute your outer glute will be burning like a saint who knows he's right.

At military training the other night we were performing a series of leg raises and then rolling straight into 60 seconds pank, then a minute of leg raises followed by 45 seconds of plank, 45 seconds of leg raises followed by 30 seconds of plank so on and so forth until we had completed 15 seconds of leg raises and 15 seconds of plank.

I reckon id be good for 3 or 4 minutes of plank were it not for feeling like i've been stabbed repeatedly even now 2 days after the event.

I'll have a go at the weekend and get back to you on this.

doing planks whilst wearing a low-cut top is not a good idea!

and some sticks

2.49 leaves me shaking like a wet dog and leaves my abs sore enough to make running a bit sketchy after.

Never done one of those before and they're not as easy as they look!

Managed 85 seconds. I was shaking from about 55 seconds on. I reckon I could do much better than that though. The challenge is on!

Stand with your left shoulder (and left side of your body) against the wall (your abdomum (sic) is at right angles to the wall)

Lift your left leg off the floor by bending it back at the knee. You're now standing on your right leg only propped against the wall

Bend your left leg at the knee, your now in a propped up running pose.

Push your left hip against the wall and take the reaction of this force on your right leg,

Two minutes later, grit your teeth....and three minutes later wipe the tears from your eyes

Repeat facing in the other direction.....teeth gritting and tear wiping will still apply.

3 minutes standard plank, 3 minutes reverse plank, I'd forgotten how tough that was!

Think I need photos Tom ... if I bend my left knee any more my nose will be on the floor

101 seconds - practice required! Was doing the plank shake after about 20 seconds!
15/08/2012 at 20:53

4 minutes until complete failure, yeah. Now for a lay down

Remember to warm up before trying it!

2 minutes 11 seconds.

I shall have to walk to the wall with my laptop and read it at the same time ... and no there will not be photos

I got to 64 seconds when my boyfriend brought the dinner in so I had to stop. At that point was wondering how much longer I could force myself to hold it! Abs still hurt an hour later. Might leave it til tomorrow then try to beat it.
