Lots of hail and sleet here, Nutty, but I managed to miss it

Really cold rain for me tonight, I didn't miss it. Wind was cold too, managed 8 miles.

Well done on the cold run, Alex
Just tried my morning run- postponed after several attempts at finding an area NOT covered in sheet ice!

Morning all

Tis a cold and frosty one

15/01/2013 at 20:36

Icy roads and darkness saw me turn to the joys of running 15m on the track... a bit slippery, but at least it was free of frozen puddles and floodlit. Pleased with the run cos it felt really comfortable- just as well as I had to turn the brain off and get into a rhythm to keep my sanity while going round and round and round....15.01m in 1.42.41 (6.50 av) splits: 7:07 6:41 6:58 6:51 7:05 7:00 6:57 7:04 6:57 6:59 6:38 6:39 6:37 6:36 6:29 3

JD - that is definitely a case of mind over matter.  Well done.

It wasn't too bad round Swansea tonight.  A bit cold but not too icy.

Cold one out there JD but not so frosty.  Have a good run

Afternoon ... this park run thing Jason, assuming I could farm the kids out by 8 (long shot) I might just about make it one Sat. What are the details ? Have you got a garmin profile of the course ?

Evening all

Alex- Parkrun is still a trial but will be on every Saturday at 9am, same as all PRs. We are hoping to launch officially in March. Until then, you don't need a barcode- just turn up ready to run at Llyn Llech Owain Country Park. The route is on trail- although road shoes are fine- it's pretty solid grit path with just a few stones along the way. It's not a PB course, but not brutal either. Garmin profile looks like this:

http://s4.runnersworld.co.uk/members/images/469713/gallery/llyn_llech_owain.png?width=350

That actually looks quite scary- but look at the numbers- they aren't big! We had 20 runners for the first trial and we asked them to rate the course from 1-10, all of them rated it as either a 9 or a 10 And the run finishes right outside the cafe which does great coffee- and what LOOKED like fab cake

5m recovery run this morning- not too slippery, but a couple of spots so still being cautious. 10.01m on the track this afternoon with a 5m tempo effort thrown in the middle. This run was scheduled to follow a recovery day, but with me swopping things around because of the ice yesterday it ended up following a swift 15 miler. Needless to say, my legs could still feel this and I was a few seconds off pace for some of the tempo miles- still happy enough considering 10.01m in 1.05.08 (6.30av) splits: 7:11 6:56 6:42 6:05 6:07 6:03 6:04 6:00 7:05 6:51 5

Chicken jalfrezi and rice coming up

Just realised that the 10m this afternoon was actually an unofficial 10m PB- LOL! My real PB is from the Elan Valley though- bit bumpy that one

Park Run sounds good.  May come along one day soon.

JD - well done on your running.

Turkey bolognese for me

Evening ... parc run looks good. Are you involved in the organisation then Jason ?

16/01/2013 at 22:09
Alex- Not so far. Couple of Trots got it off the ground, but I have volunteered to help out this weekend I will be involved in it in the future cos I think it's a really good social event/ move away from the money spinners/ good way to get non- runners involved. As for volunteering- That's the basic principle of PR- run some and volunteer some. When it gets officially launched you get 10 points per volunteer session for 3 times a year- same as winning the event. No one is expected to volunteer more than 3 times a year in fact, you get no points after 3 volunteers I think....

I am hungry all the time - I blame the weather

16/01/2013 at 22:16
I am too, NR. I blame the mileage!
