Yesterday I received my number for the Watford halfmarathon, and I was just 2 numbers away from 666, which revers to the devel. So, am I just lucky not to apply two minutes earlier, or are race organisers not giving away the "dangerous" numbers?
For example, in formula one no driver is racing with the number 13.

Has anybody of you ever had the number 13, or have you seen someone in a race with this number? What happened with this people? Have they lost they shoes in deep mud in a XC-event? Have they broken their legs in front of the finish? Or have they bin hit by the start gun?

Or don`t you care about the number you are wearing, and it is just a sheet of paper you are carrying to the finish?

I did my first ever 5K race last October and was a bit miffed that my race number was 13! I did 5K in 24:26 and came 17th out 41 women! No lost shoes, or getting lost en route oor tripping over or no broken legs I'm afraid!! A normal mid table finish with an average 5K time, I guess..sorry!! So may be it is just a number with no mystical bad luck...as an aside, in 1986, my candidate number for my Sociology O'level exam was 00013. I passed this also, and with a grade A...but we are talking Sociology :0)

When I first started running I pre-entered a race and got sent No 1, I phoned them to say there must be some mistake but they told me I had been the first entry.

I think I finished 76th of 90 or so.

Angela - yeah, I had candidate number 13 too, for my A-levels. A bit disconcerting!

Based on admittedly limited experience, I seem to race better in an even number. Is it just me? Am I disturbed?

Was born on the 13th, and when younger, in the English Schools Track and Field Champs, Cleveland were always allocated numbers 13 and 14 - spent many races wearing number 13 -

For some reason, it is a number that seems to follow me around - hotel rooms, other race numbers... never done me any harm so far..
