Hi Veester, I'm just down the road in Taddy. If you can make your way down to the race course there are a few tracks & trails around there. The sustrans cycle routes are around that area and are signposted & traffic free. You could pick up the cycle track to Selby, run as far as you want then run back.

Many thanks for this. I ended up running in the Heworth area but will take you up on your suggestion next time I'm back there. I was a bit concerned about getting lost in the fog and ice to stray to far from the house.

You wont get lost on the York-Selby run. It's a disused railway line so there and back, you cant go wrong.
