Apparently, if you run on concrete(the road) then it effects your insides when you get older. This might just be for women or men and women but i was just wondering if anyone else had heard about this?

heard about joint problems with to much running on hard surfaces (I suppose that is part of "your insides").
BUT if you mean running affecting internal organs - havn't heard that one.

Wouldn't worry though - it will be good for you insides next week. Seems to go that way with what boffins think are good/bad for you.

keep on running - does more good than harm in anybodys book

cheers

Most roads are tarmac, which is softer than concrete. Pavements can be softer still (less hardcore underneath) but that depends on the surface.

My advice: don't run on concrete, it's not good!

L8n, the whole research into this is a bit murky. If you go to pponline and do a search on the word Concrete you'll see what I mean.

The belief that running on contrete is bad for you, or that running on soft surfaces is better, is so prevalent that it gets cited in Runner's World and similar sources without question. It is none the less anecdotal (like much sports practice) and psychology may well play a major part in perceived problems.

I've found that running on concrete makes my knees ache. As there's not much concrete round here, i tend to avoid it. Most of our roads are tarmac and the pavement slabs are being lifted and replace with tarmac to prevent big compensation claims to the council when people trip over them.

i don't know but I do my long runs on Country lanes (concrete) and I can feel it on my legs it's harder. If I run on concrete then on grass, the grass feel very soft, so that means the concrete must be hard!

Most country lanes are tarmac, not concrete, no?

Immodium - the only way I can get through 1/2Ms without wanting to go to the loo for the last few miles!

Try Gelsemium (homoeopathic remedy) always sorts out the "nervous insides" for me.

The FLM is on road (tarmac) which is going to be softer on the knees right??

I've been running for more than 40 years, finished 29 marathons so far, and haven't noticed any damage to my internal organs!
