Im currently in the process of writing a book about running route in Wales, what are you're favourite routes and would you like to share them with other runners. It is a non profit book as i love running and like to share my passion with other people. The book fee will only cover costs.

I am looking for routes in all areas of Wales, especially costal areas, and places visitors to Wales would not have thought of, the less ovbious places.

Hi Cliff:

My favourite is the Millennium Coastal Path - Llanelli (Park Centre) to Burry Port Harbour Section

 http://www.millenniumcoastalpark.com/mapfull.asp

This route is 8 miles return.

I also head inland starting from the from the coastal path when the weather's note so good as the cycle path along the Llanelli and Mynyndd Mawr old railway track has lot's of shelter. I run from the park centre to the Waun Wyllt Pub in Horeb, Five Roads and back - 10 miles return. (Sustrans Swiss Valley Cycle Route).

Please keep us informed of the book's progress.

Hi Cliff,

A lovely 10 mile route starts in Killay (Swansea) near the old Railway Inn (It has a selection of locally brewed real ales named after different beaches of the Gower).

Go down the cycle path by the pub through Clyne Woods, a beautiful stretch of path under the shade of the trees by the side of a brook.
It comes out on the seafront in Blackpill then turn right and run along the seafront towards the seaside town of the Mumbles. I run through the Mumbles along the seafront towards the pier and up a very steep hill to the old "Big Apple", a local seaside landmark near the beautiful Bracelet Bay (The view up here is amazing) before turning back around.

I'm always on the Millennium Coastal Path too. I actually park right where you do, Kev. If I do a half marathon around there (rarely), then I basically run to one side of the path (over the bridge to the car park), and then back to the visitor centre to the end of the footpath and back to the car again. That's pretty much 21K. It's a beautiful run too - lots of variety and a challenge when there's a bit of wind up.

I also love running from around Swansea University into Mumbles and back. Again, if you're feeling adventurous than you can do a nice run from Mumbles around the cliff paths (I warn you, it gets REALLY steep - don't do a recovery run there) to Caswel Bay and beyond.

Well I got to say Afan Argoed(Port Talbot) is a great place to run no traffic just the odd mountain bike, we at Port Talbot Harriers have a 1/2 marathon training route up there or if you like there is a shorter run of just over 9miles. There are numerous other routes there aswell a few hills as you would expect being in Wales!

DV, do you have any more information on the half marathon route? I was considering driving up there and seeing if I could find something reasonably flat not long ago, but from my childhood memories of walking the area, it's mostly hill.

WAC - You park at Rhyslyn and it is marked out mate. It has a bit of hill but nothing to serious, most sundays you will a Port Talbot Harriers up there, except for this weekend to many races on.  After the start you run for about a mile then go right, follow the path up A slight incline the head for cymmer, there are mile markers and arrows pointing the way through to glyncorrwg and back down to the finish. Feel free to log on to our forum we have number of routes through the mountains of Wales and we welcome anyone to join us for our runs, there are various paces so it suits everyone.
